True enough.  I was thinking about this, trying to put myself in his  shoes, 
imagining how he would perceive them.  Darryl also pulled up  Midnight Oil's 
"Bed's Are Burning" on YouTube and commented on how the singer  had no rhythm, 
saying how he and a buddy used to imitate that spaz dance Peter  Garrett did 
in the video.
 
White guys can have rhythm!  
 
So much of mainstream pop back then was, as you say filled with  megatracking 
and massive gating.  It's like a trademark of the time  period.
 
But, the Nirvana comparisons with LF?  Nah.  The only thing I can  see is how 
they opened the door stylistically for bands post NEVERMIND to have  more of 
an "edge," and P&B&R&T sounds like a very meaty Game Theory  to me--Scott on 
steroids.

Ah.  Buddha Records collection, circa 1971, called BUBBLEGUM MUSIC IS  THE 
NAKED TRUTH, was the first album I ever owned, (it was either that or  The 
Partridge Family's SOUND MAGAZINE--may have gotten them both for my  fourth 
birthday, but I don't remember) an 8-track I still have to this  day.  It makes a 
fantastic title.  You can tell her site is a labor of  love.    
 
I still listen to SM, which I think is a brilliant pop record--the remaster  
on Buddha from '00 was striking.
 
I"m planning on getting season 2 of the series on DVD this week--the best  
music of the PF and the peak ratings of the show were in season 2.  I have  
season one's DVD, and it's worth having, merely for the commentary of Danny  
Bonaduce, when he says, looking at the scene where the bus pulls into Los Vegas  
for a (virtual) PF performance, his 10-year-old head sticking out  the window: 
"I'm a hundred years old."

New SV is good--her lyrics are always captivating. (not on sale--SV is  
giving money to pay for Luka's reconstructive surgery--eww, baaad joke).
 
New Rooney--if you liked the last one, you'll like this one--was on sale  for 
7.99, to offset the guilt in the pleasure.
 
New Editors--same deal, though for some reason I like the Editors but not  
Interpol, which is like saying you like Keane but not Coldplay (I think it's  
because The Editors had Ian McCulloch posters in their teenage bedrooms and not  
Ian Curtis').--also on sale for 9.99.

Thanks - I don't even know there was a new Editors out.  Weird that it's 
the same week as the new Interpol.

Update: Apple just released the 7.3.1 version of iTunes, which fixes the 
sort updating problem I was having below.  However, it still put numbers 
and symbols at the end of the list instead of the beginning.  Sheesh.
