Amazing. this is worth repeating - I knew Mitch could play, but this was the most enjoyable guitar performance I can remember - still photos I've seen of recent performances gave no clue as to how exciting it is to see Mitch have at it live - 100's of crystal clear notes, total control, but wild throughout - and singing while he does it! - Amazing, indeed! > Shalini is a cool, slightly detached..Rock Goddess. > She looks so cool (& beautiful), and she's playing > some mighty bass. Honest to god - ! She makes it look easy, but damn she's good! > The other great thing about the Sac. show was that > Stacey, Robert and I got to spend quality time with > all 3 of the band members. haven't met up with Mitch and Shalini since the mid-90s, and it was sweet to renew the aquaintances - they, and their drummer, were great people Under no circumstance should you miss them if they play your town! I think it's great the West coasties have finally gotten a chance to see Mitch in action. I've been the very fortunate recipient of these shows for years so it's glad to see others finally getting to catch him live. The guy is just phenomenal on guitar and each time he plays the songs are in some way different. His tone, control and spontaneity are just mind blowing. With Shalini so effortlessly on bass they kick up a helluva a racket fro a threesome. So sorry Eric Marshall couldn't make the trip, but it sounds like Mitch found a good fill-in. Thanks Robert for the video clips. Excellient drummer, too. Mitch's years of musicianship and trained ear flow out of him like a river--he's the best he's ever been, (I only saw Let's Active twice and Shalini once--so my comparisons may not be as accurate as some others) and the quality of video you got in that lighting, (so stable--did you use a tripod?) as well as decent sound for the heavy amont of dBs going through your equipment--really superior quality work. Maybe Gene at the record store will get them to come out and play and support the record here. I'll ask him. He got Shalini, Don Dixon, and Robyn Hitchcock to come, so why not? WNCW would certainly come out and record the set for their "Tower of Song" program (and prepare it in the world's smallest production room). - --Mark ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Apr 2007 10:40:40 -0700 (PDT) From: robert toren Subject: [loud-fans] Re: The Mitch Easter experience > From: Gil Ray > This is THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD right now, and I > thank my lucky stars I got to see them. Twice! There were lots of great musical and personal moments at both shows - one of my favorite was after the Rickshaw set; Gil went up to Mitch and started raving about Mitch's guitar playing and Mitch came right back raving about how much he loved Gil's guitar playing on I Am Atomic Man - Gil was obviously surprised and touched - it was really sweet_ :-) http://www.angrylambie.com/images/blog%20pics/mitch_gil.jpg Did anyone here see the Amoeba show? Joe? Stacey said it was good - ~100 people came to see them, and afterward the store employees said Mitch&band were some of the nicest folks to ever play an in-store there - afterward Joe and Sue went out with the band for Mai Tai's - but maybe Joe will tell that story? Here's another Rickshaw shot http://www.angrylambie.com/images/blog%20pics/mitch%20group.jpg oh - the vids were shot handheld with my little Canon digital snapshooter - we couldn't come up with a real video camera - will live to regret that! :-( Robert ____________________________________________________________________________________ Expecting? I've bought both UTOPIA PARKWAY and WELCOME INTERSTATE MANAGERS and got incredibly bored after track 3. I saw them live once (at the tail end of the UTOPIA touring cycle a friend's band opened) and while they had a great live vibe (they somehow mixed "Radiation Vibe" with "More Than A Feeling"), It sounded like the same song played 17 times.... and the crowd ate it up. I really don't get their appeal at all. I do like "Bright Future In Sales" though. - --- zoom@muppetlabs.com wrote: > You're missing out on one of my favorite albums of > 2003--the broad, > lumbering, frustratingly-sequenced, but frequently > brilliant WELCOME > INTERSTATE MANAGERS. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss an email again! It should have been a match made in heaven, but for some reason, Steve Albini got it all wrong. The straightforward, somewhat messy production style doesn't really suit Iggy Pop that well anymore... hasn't since AMERICAN CAESAR. My hypothesis on the 'absence' of Mike Watt... His contributions are barely audible on the finished product. One could only dream what a reunion of the RAW POWER lineup could've produced.
