This was Mitch's CD release show for "Dynamico". Opening the show was a solo set by Don Dixon performed on guitar in the middle of the audience. Unusual for the Cat's Cradle they had set chairs on the floor in front of the stage with an area in the middle open for Dixon to perform from. He stood on the floor surrounded by tea lights on the floor for his 30 minute set. Then Mitch followed with a twelve song set, of which half were Let's Active songs. The band really seemed to be enjoying the old ones, more so than at any other show I've seen in the past few years. It was great to hear "Waters Part" on the Rickenbacker again. Don Dixon added trombone to "Flags For Everything" to satisfy Mitch's audience call-out for a "trombone emergency". Later Don reappeared with six-string bass on "Love Slaves for Paradise Lost". This show may be the first time since Let's Active days that I've heard Mitch do "Crows on a Phone Line". Don Dixon's new band called the Jump Rabbits followed. This is an awesome threesome with Jamie Hoover on guitar and drummer extraordinaire Jim Brock. Dixon is sounding better than ever. Their set mixed in vintage Dixon songs with the newer stuff from his recent solo album. Jamie added a couple of songs of his own and Jim Brock got a brief solo feature on bodhran at the end of "Man on the Hall". For the grand finally Don said he really had a treat for us bringing back out Mitch and Shalini, each on 12-string bass and Eric Marshall. Eric's drum kit was still onstage next to Brock's. Then Jamie switched off to bass as well so we had a band comprised of 4 bass guitars and two drummers. It was quite a sight when to every one's surprise, though quite appropriately, they launched into Spinal Tap's "Big Bottom" and later "Praying Mantis". Man what a great night of music! Was Brock playing a standard kit, or was it that weird, almost Partch-like setup I've seen him use on a couple of tours? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2007 10:52:36 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Dixon/Easter show Damn - that sounds fantastic. It has a bout a 30 second drum lead-in before it really gets going. Dixon and Jamie Hoover handle the vocals. http://www.yousendit.com/download/T2dmUWVzR3NUWUEwTVE9PQ Larry On 3/19/07, Chris Prew wrote: > I'm sure I speak for many people here when I say -- > > "Please?
