The new album THE LIGHT DIVIDES isn't any kind of breakthrough - more of the same, really - but I like it a lot. Emotional, elaborate melodies; more or less continuous boy-girl harmonies; elliptical, smart lyrics about personal life; lots of sad mid-tempo cuts. Other than the great song "You Don't Live Long Enough" (which is recycled from Price's solo record HONEY IN THE CHEMICALS), my favorite track is "Broken Leg," more energetic and angry than the other songs. Seems to me that Price's work with the Maggies, as a solo act, and with the Winterpills is pretty much all of a piece, but I haven't gone back lately to look for signs of evolution. Anyway, this and the Shins record have both worked for me in 2007. - Dan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Mar 2007 08:50:55 -0700 From: "bradley skaught" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] which Spoon to choose Girls Can Tell or Kill The Moonlight, with GCT edging out KTM just because I think the songwriting is a bit stronger. I'm looking forward to the next one--Gimme Fiction was great, but maybe a little too similar to the previous two. I'm going to start with GIRLS CAN TELL. Only a completely unrelated note I just read an article about Dean and Britta in STOMP AND STAMMER--I didn't know Britta was in Atlanta band Ultrababyfat, or the voice of Jem in the '80s. That had to have been a blast to do, though Josie and the Pussycats are hands down the untoppable queens of cartoon rock.
