You mean "Bat out of Hell"? Apparently the Hall of Famers would have you buy that before buying John Lennon's "Imagine" (#144). I am just surprised that the "Grease" soundtrack is #36 and McCartney's "Band on the Run" is #184; and "Fleetwood Mac's" self-titled album is #185. How do they figure that Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" (at #171) is less important to have in my collection than Whitney Houston's debut LP (#46) (for which they gave a only a lukewarm review)? I agree with most of the ratings, but there are several glaring problems you could drive a truck through ... I wouldn't be lying awake at night regarding this collection. Although the inclusion of Marvin Gaye, John Coltrane, and Johnny Cash seemed interesting. But if even the reviewers admit that "Saturday Night Fever" would only be played once or twice once we buy it, why rate it as high as #40? (whereas The Clash's "London Calling" gets to be #96) I don't think that the list was well thought out, though there is some good stuff there. > > Not sure if I can handle the idea of a Kid Rock revival... > > Andy > > > "It's sad and somewhat appropriate to see this elderly man, who once > called for 'the free exchange of energy and materials--we demand the end > of money,' now charging five dollars for readings, pimped by guys like > John Strausbaugh, who wrote an entire fucking book about how rock > shouldn't be for old guys, but that's another essay." > > --Andy Wang on John Sinclair, from his chapter on the MC5's KICK OUT THE > JAMS in KILL YOUR IDOLS, edited by Jim DeRogatis and Carmel Carrillo > > __________ NOD32 2106 (20070310) Information __________ > > This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. > http://www.eset.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2007 08:40:28 -0600 From: Jack Lippold Subject: Re: [loud-fans] In case you lie awake worrying that you don't own enough Definitive Albums... And "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" - arguably the definitive psychedelic album - isn't even on there. Not to mention "The Who Sell Out". Our local paper ran a head shot making him look like one of the bums wandering Eastlake. De mortuis nil nisi bonum, Andy It's been such a long time I think I should be goin', yeah And time doesn't wait for me, it keeps on rollin' Sail on, on a distant highway I've got to keep on chasin' a dream I've gotta be on my way Wish there was something I could say. Well I'm takin' my time, I'm just movin' on You'll forget about me after I've been gone And I take what I find, I don't want no more It's just outside of your front door. It's been such a long time. It's been such a long time. Well I get so lonely when I am without you But in my mind, deep in my mind, I can't forget about you Good times, and faces that remind me I'm tryin' to forget your name and leave it all behind me You're comin' back to find me. This new version managed to file about a third of my nearly 30K tracks properly, which of course means that everything is all screwed up, and changing tracks one at a time doesn't look like a whole lot of fun. (Or maybe you're more a _Big Picture_ kind of person - to me it falls a little short, but whatever). If you haven't already, you should go immediately here - < http://www.futurecloudsandradar.com/listening/index.php> - to see what main Cotton Mather guy Robert Harrison is up to: his new band Future Clouds & Radar. There are three tracks available for download, from the new double-disc CD. Sounds pretty fine to me. (If you look around - like, uh, at any other URLs in this e-mail - you might find a fourth track to listen to.) - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V7 #64 ******************************
