Ladies 'n' gents - The greatest live act I have ever seen, Jason and the Scorchers, are reuniting for what may be their last show ever - to raise money for Perry Baggs, their standout drummer, whose diabetes is about to destroy his life. Perry needs a kidney transplant and is in seriously bad shape. The show will take place in the Exit/In here in Nashville on June 2nd, and all proceeds will go to benefit Perry. Perry will actually participate in the show as his health allows. Even if Perry wasn't in dire need, I would urge anyone who's ever had a mild interest in Jason and the Scorchers to get to Nashville on June 2nd if they possibly can, and take this opportunity to see them live. As Jason says in the attached note, this is likely the last time that we'll get to see them play. One of the great pleasures of living in Nashville over the last 19 years has been getting to see the Scorchers a whole bunch of times, but even if I had seen them twice as many times as I did, it wouldn't be nearly enough. If you can possibly do it, c'mon down here and see 'em with me. later, Miles p.s.: http://www.exit-in.com will have ticket info eventually... -----Forwarded Message----- From: Oldjoe1899@cs.com Sent: Feb 22, 2007 11:48 AM To: rcsoup@monroe.lib.mi.us Subject: [Rcsoup] Here's your chance Here you go folks, you are first to know. If you want to see the band again in this format, you had best make this one. Its for a good cause and who knows if something like this will ever happen again. Jason Press Release Jason and the Scorchers to play Exit In June 2, 2007 Jason and the Scorchers, Nashville's legendary rockers, will reform for one concert only June 2, 2007 at the Exit In Nashville Tennessee. This will be a benefit concert, with all profits earmarked to help pay the medical expenses for Perry Baggs. Perry is courageously fighting diabetes and kidney failure, and is on dialysis 3 days a week. He is the original Scorcher's drummer, harmony singer, and songwriter of some of the band's biggest songs. His courage in the face of his illnesses is a great inspiration to many in the Nashville music community, as well as other diabetes and dialysis patients. Health permitting, Perry does plan to play drums on some songs at the show, and sing harmony. Warner E. Hodges will be on guitar, Jason Ringenberg on vocals, Fenner Castner on drums filling in for Perry as needed, and Kenny Ames on bass. Old Scorchers Ken Fox and Andy York may make an appearance if their schedules permit. The show will start promptly at 8.30. The band will do 2 sets. Tickets are not for sale yet but will be soon. Keep checking the Exit In website for info. Their will be no guest list, since all money will go to help pay Perry's medical expenses. Tickets will be 20.00 in advance and 25.00 at the door. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Feb 2007 14:32:09 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: [loud-fans] Bangles digitized From Rex over on the Robyn Hitchcock list (and formerly - ? - of this one) - he found a site with a good rip-from-vinyl of _The Real World_ and _All Over the Place_ (scroll down): < http://powerpoplovers.blogspot.com/search?q=bangles>. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Feb 2007 17:02:30 -0800 (PST) From: zoom@muppetlabs.com Subject: [loud-fans] The Show I'll Never Forget Apropos, perhaps, of Miles' post, comes a new book: fifty authors each on the best live show s/he ever attended. The list being fifty or so strong, I put it in the .sig. Your thoughts? Mine follow below: If I Had To Pick One: Talking Heads, Seattle Center Arena, circa 1983. Yes, you can watch the movie, and I have. I'll treasure many non-movie moments, though--Byrne's shy, almost stuttered "Hello" as he came out to play "Psycho Killer"; the ghostly offstage harmony on "Heaven"; Byrne's nervous loping away from a rose bouquet tossed up onstage; a guy in the crowd who almost became my friend reading a paperback of GRAVITY'S RAINBOW; and of course the liquid pleasure of one of the world's tightest, most revelatory bands in peak form. (And they'd never tour again, but we didn't know that until after the movie came out). A few others: Prince, Tacoma Dome, Valentine's Day, 1985. "Y'all don't mind if we jam for a little while?" probably sounded the death knell to greatness that night. The Dome's sound didn't help. Still, he played "Purple Rain" for what seemed like half an hour. And Shelia E.'s awful teasing bit through "Lipstick On Your Collar" took a long time to fade. Kinski and Ex-Girl, the Monkey Pub, circa 1998. Kinski became my favorite local band, and this must have been near their last gig as a trio. Before the smoke overcame me and I had to shove my way to the door, though, I knew the revelation of Ex-Girl, whom I can only begin to describe as Yoko Ono's long-lost teenage triplets. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at the Paramount, circa 1995. Wish I could remember the music better than I remember the $75 I ate for the ticket for the woman I never saw again after that night. Slobberpocket at the Lox Stock & Bagel, New Year's Eve, 1992. Still the only band I've ever named. The six-foot-six three-hundred pound sunglassed lead singer shouted out "hand jive!" and absolutely no one else in the place hand-jived. Then I went down to the Alexis Hotel for midnight. They packed up, moved their gear over to the Monkey Pub, and played a through-midnight gig with Rattletrap and Monkey Finger. That was their last gig for several years. They broke up about a week into 1993. Endorfin, the Monkey Pub, circa 2003. Two young women with guitars constructing an aesthetic out of Captain Beefheart's "Dali's Car," with a smidge of Dock Boggs thrown in. The male drummer ran from behind his foot-and-a-half high kit into the street, two-thirds of the way through. Rolling Stones, the Kingdome, October 15, 1981. My dad sure isn't perfect, but he pulled me out of school to go. Peter Wolf of the J. Geils Band rapped about the Moral Majority before "Love Stinks." I held my fingers in my ears most of the time. A teenage girl told me not to do that because, "it's rock'n'roll!!!!" Another teenage girl died outside that night, but we didn't find out until next morning. I've omitted shows in which I took a part onstage. And that band whose name I can't remember, at the Monkey Pub, where the male drummer(?) dropped his pants and stuck his head in the bass drum, while the female guitarists spanked him with their machine heads, Andy Contents: R.E.M. at Madison Square Garden, New York City, November 4, 2004 / Sean Manning -- Miles Davis at the Casablanca, Buffalo, New York, September 21, 1955 / Ishmael Reed -- Jimmy Reed at LuAnn's, Dallas, Texas, April 1958 / David Ritz -- Steve Abbot benefit concert at Jordan Junior High School, Salt Lake City, Utah, winter 1961 / Ron Carlson -- The Rolling Stones at the Academy of Music, New York City, May 1, 1965 / Lynne Tillman -- The Beatles at Plaza de Toros, Madrid, Spain, July 2, 1965 / Rebecca Brown -- Titans of the tenor! at Philharmonic Hall, New York City, February 19, 1966 / Gary Giddins -- James Brown at Boston Garden, Boston, April 5, 1968 / David Gates -- Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy at the Scene, New York City, 1968 / Gene Santoro -- Woodstock at Max Yasgur's farm, Bethel, New York, August 15-17, 1969 / Sigrid Nunez -- Nina Simone at the Village Gate, New York City, winter 1970 / Linda Yablonsky -- Bill Evans at the Jazz Workshop, Boston, January 1971 / Richard Burgin -- Led Zeppelin at St. Louis Arena, St. Louis, Missouri, May 11, 1973 / Diana Ossana -- Three Dog Night at San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego, California, autumn 1974 / John Haskell -- Television at CBGB, New York City, winter 1975 / Bruce Baumann -- The Sunshine Festival at Anaheim Stadium, Anaheim, California, September 28, 1975 / Karen Karbo -- Queen at the Capital Centre, Landover, Maryland, November 29, 1977 / Tracy Chevalier -- Mink DeVille at the Paradise, Boston, winter 1978 / Nick Flynn -- Patti Smith at Winterland, San Francisco, May 13, 1978, or Boarding House, San Francisco, August 1979 / Jennifer Egan -- Bruce Springsteen at Madison Square Garden, New York City, August 1978 / Dani Shapiro -- Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, New York City, December 14, 1978 / Elizabeth Crane -- X/Levi & the Rockats at the Whisky, Los Angeles, 1979 / Arion Berger -- The Funk Festival at Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles, May 26, 1979 / Susan Straight -- Black Flag at Hong Kong Cafe, Los Angeles, September 2, 1979 / John Albert -- The Horslips at the Whitla Hall, Belfast, Ireland, April 1980 / Paul Muldoon -- Public Image Ltd. at the Ritz, New York City, May 15, 1981 / Luc Sante -- The Kinks at Madison Square Garden, New York City, October 3, 1981 / Thomas Beller -- Rush at Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland, Maine, December 4, 1985 / Heidi Julavits -- The Pogues at Metro, Boston, July 2, 1986 / Robert Polito -- The Beastie Boys at the Capital Centre, Landover, Maryland, April 5, 1987 / Marc Nesbitt -- Redd Kross at the Town Pump, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, May 1987 / Carl Newman -- Bon Jovi at Memorial Coliseum, Portland, Oregon, May 8, 1989 / Jon Raymond -- Van Morrison at the Beacon Theatre, New York City, November 30, 1989 / Robert Burke Warren - -- Van Morrison at the Beacon Theatre, New York City, November 30, 1989 / Holly George-Warren -- Clarence Carter at Bobby's Hideaway, Waldo, Florida, January 18, 1990 / Kevin Canty -- Nirvana at the Paramount Theatre, Seattle, October 31, 1991 / Charles R.
