I just picked up 50 Foot Wave, DeVotchKa, Peter Case, Kristian Hoffman, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, and a Chanukah compilation. Most of the decent stuff was picked over or still only 60% off, but those were all either $1.50 or $3.00 for the Black Tape. Oh, and they had vast quantities of Banco de Gaia - I didn't have a strong preference on which to pick up, but I liked "Last Train to Lhasa" so I got the Live at Glastonbury. I think all the Banco stuff was $1.50 or a bit more. n.p. "Last Train to Lhasa," Live at Glastonbury Michael W. This seems to include many Wounded Bird titles, so that's good. Still, there are no real bargains yet. I rigged things to get 70% off a few weeks ago, and still had to be very selective to buy CDs that couldn't be found cheaper on Amazon. This is one dying chain where the closing has more to do with bad business than changing markets. The best news is that lots of out-of-print items are being unearthed from the warehouses. I picked up The Skeptics box set for $18. Some stores remain open until the 21st, but I'm told that other locations may close as early as the 15th. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2006 19:19:07 -0800 From: "Steve Holtebeck" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Tower Records - Bankruptcy Update Last week before the Aimee Mann Xmas show at Bimbo's, I walked into the SF Tower at Columbus & Bay and got change back from a 20 for six new CDs tagged at $14.99 each with an 80% discount.. It's easy to get swept away in the discount, but my criteria was "would I rescue this CD in the Amoeba discount bin?", which in most cases I wouldn't. In preparation for the huge discounts, like dogs burying their bones, many Tower customers are stashing sought-after CDs in the New Age section or Yngwie Malmsteen bin where they can swoop down and buy the stuff for the biggest discount at the last minute. So when you're searching for deals on the final weekend at your local Tower bankruptcy sale, there are surprise finds in nonobvious places.. - -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 02:12:15 EST From: CertronC90@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Your top tens of 2006 I'm still working on my top ten list, but I know that #1 is The Hidden Cameras AWOO and #2 is Mojave 3's PUZZLES LIKE YOU. #3 I'm thinking will be Pernice Brothers. I've got to get in there Venice Is Sinking and The LF/Barbeau record, Belle and Sebastian, Moz and.... I was noticing today that The Decemerists totally plagiarize the guitar on Belle and Sebastian's song "The Boy With The Arab Strap" on "The Crane Wife 1&2." - --Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 02:36:27 EST From: CertronC90@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Your top tens of 2006 In a message dated 12/13/2006 2:14:31 A.M. There's probably only about 25 dollars worth of wood there, and they're charging thousands."
