Though still pretty sparse and mellow, it seems somehow more fully realized than his other recent stuff. The patented Lloyd Cole Wordplay is definitely in effect, so the lyrics are enjoyable. And hey, anything that namechecks both Scarlett Johansson (which he pronounces YO-han-son) and Six Feet Under is okay in my book. Your Miller-liking ass overrides any Coupland-disliking when it comes to trust issues regarding musical taste. Glad to hear it isn't disappointing. Btw, the end track I liked best on the latest Pernice Brothers record, "Grudge F***," I discovered is a remake of a Scud Mountain Boys song. That album has grown on me considerably. Now I want to hear the Scud Mountain Boys records, however many years late to the party I am. And, Scarlett Johansson is quite easy on the eyes. Perhaps she is to Cole what Winona Ryder was to Matthew Sweet, once upon a time. - --Mark ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #199 *******************************
