I'm not so good these days at entering into the spirt of this kind of thing, but: Really should be on the list and not already mentioned (like Cheese Chronicles and Our Band Could Be Your Life) Diary of a Rock'n'Roll Star (Hunter) Confessions of a Record Producer ("Moses Avalon") Really should not be on list: Fargo Rock City. If I can't have back the hours I wasted on that half-assed piece of trash, I'd at least like to let my example serve as a warning to others. Nah, there's something backward-looking and wrongheaded about Hornby's views, I think. I remember being irritated at something else he wrote as well...then there's his inane response to Radiohead's Kid A, to which I responded here: - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2006 12:50:25 EDT From: CertronC90@aol.com Subject: [loud-fans] Andrew Sandoval invites you to Come To The Sunshine Andrew sent me this from his news list (which I need to join). Figured I best get this to you quick before air time. If you aren't familiar with him other than from seeing his name on Rhino reissue credits, he has a track on SING HOLLIES IN REVERSE, and wrote an exhaustive Monkees bio recently and has a best-of compilation out called 33 of his first 3 albums which I recommend highly to get a taste of his music. He's also a super nice guy. Jen ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2006 22:55:09 -0400 From: Jenny Grover Subject: [loud-fans] music database help I need help/advice/suggestions from those of you who keep CD collection databases on your computers. I want to set up a database for my 60's garage band compilations, in which the fields would have to include song title, artist, album title, and file type (so I can enter whether it's an actual CD, an MP3, an AAC, or whatever), and perhaps a comments field. It has to be searchable by each field, and what I prefer is to view the entire database (or however much fits on a "page") at once, with the listing reorganizing alphabetically as I select a field. I want a horizontal display of all the info PER SONG (in other words, none of this crap where I have to type in a title or artist and then open up a new display that shows a list of all the songs on that particular album on which it appears, like Tellico, which I tried and found, buggy, unweildy to use, and ugly, nor a system like one other one we tried where it goes by "various" as the artist and lists only by album, with the entire tracklisting in that row). In other words, what I want is something that looks similar to the iTunes library, but that does not actually store the music on my computer. All I want is the text descriptions. I would like to find something like this in which I can retrieve the data from the CD itself or an online database look-up so that I don't have to hand type all the entries. It needs to run on a Linux system. Jen ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:29:14 -0400 From: "Larry Tucker" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Wuxtry, wuxtry!
