I do ask that you'd please forgive me for being so psychotic in the past, and for cluttering your inboxes with my seratonin challenged drivel. My use of the list was inappropriate in the past. I now have a therapist for such things. I've been lurking here for quite a while, since the new LF release. The last new record I bought was the new Mojave 3, and how many months ago was that? I catch World Cafe when I can, and read Magnet (parts of it), but I'm just not the hardcore popster I once was. But, I decided to come back here to keep abreast of the goings on in the (loose) musical niche most here favor, since the music this list likes most closely resembles my own taste, not to torment you or to make you turn on your filters. I just figured I could see what you guys are into, and that would be a guide. Anyway, I check the list here about once a week to see what's happening. Hope all is well with you all. Now back to the ethers. - --Mark Staples, who really enjoyed the YouTube GT/LF concert footage (though it took forever on dial-up) np The Beach Boys SMILEY SMILE "Whosoever shall not fall by the sword or by famine, shall fall by pestilence so why bother shaving?" Nice to hear from you. Not much ether around these parts lately. But that will soon....change! Very sad, but everyone concerned was ready, and I just wish that someday people could be treated with such respect, tenderness and care if faced with such an illness, as the vet gave to Monster. Long live Monster! As for the birthday bash.....Holy cow. I knew Stacey and I were going to N.C. and that there would be 2 family reunions and that my sister (Lindsay) diabolically planned these on my 50th birthday. What I didn't know was that the main event turned out to be a surprise party that she and Stacey had been working on for a year! The first reunion was with my sibs and their spouses and their kids and my dad's side of the family. It was held in a picnic shelter in Charlotte at Freedom Park. I grew up next to this park and have quite a history there. THis was informal and I got to see my dad's surviving sister and all of the cousins I haven't seen in about...35 years or so. It was fun and I'm really glad I got to see these people - may be the last time I do. That night, my sister rented out this giant tent-pavillion thing at the Marriot and I knew there was to be a dinner and my mom's side of the family, along with some from the other side. I had been bummed for a while knowing that I was not going to have enough time to look up old buddies, but this was, and should be, a family thing. SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!! Friends, it was mind blowing. Along with my mom's brother (both my mom and dad have been dead for a really long time), and most of his kids, were the guitarist from Rock Bottom (high school band), Murphy from Rock Bottom and the Happy Eggs, Ana Morales-Gillard, a dear friend from the late 70's - Joni, my nephew's band was playing, and there was a multi-media presentation on computer-slides of photos of MY LIFE!, scrapbooks filled with birthday greetings, more scrapbooks filled with family history, toasts, and the presentation of a beautiful acoustic guitar my nephew had made for me (I knew about that). Maybe the biggest and sweetist surprise was a performance that Doug Gillard made in front of a webcam (He's on the road w/Richard Buckner)of a wonderful little birthday song he wrote and played for me! It's a cool song, and when he gets back I'll ask if I could put it up on my MySpace site. Very sweet! God! Am I worthy????? Most of the photos were supplied by Robert and my ex-wife. Funny that I'm friends with 2 people that have taken a gazzlion pictures of me! Wow. The next day, it just happened that Jamie Hoover's band -The Spongetones-were playing a small outdoor gig at an university very near to where I grew up. Stacey and I saw the whole set with Ana and a couple of other friends. Total bliss. Stacey and I then headed up to Chapel Hill and stayed with my sister for about 4 days. One day we drove down to Kernersville and had lunch and spent the day with Mitch and Shalini. Very cool, and his studio is something to behold. Jeezus!!!!! That's it. That's enough. I have the best sister and wife in the world. It could not have been any more perfect. Every person on this planet should have a week like I did. Sweet. I needed to get the cd mastered, but I had no idea what that really was, so I asked my buddy Russ Tolman, if he had any recommendations. He did, and the guy's name was Gary Hobish....Hmmmmm...Gary Hobish...I know that name! He was one of the (Look out! Major trivia coming up!)engineers on 2 Steps! Well, I had to use him then, and it worked out swell. He told me that the biggest thrill of his career was working with Mitch on that record! Cool. Turns out I had mixed everything to hot for digital format, but Gary did a great job - "I've heard worse from people who should have known better". I'll take it! Sounds great to me. Grammy award winning Rachel Gutek is doing the art, and she's nailing it. Very cool! Gil ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #187 *******************************
