Why not? I told myself. Get rid of some of my extra stuff and get something good to listen to, to boot. I have been ecstatic abot my experiences so far, given the expectations I had going in. To answer Rog's questions: 1) I listen to CDs on an old-fashioned thing called a stereo ;) -- doesn't apply. For everybody else, it is considered good form to delete MP3s. 2) Anything stamped promo on the disk can't be traded per the rules. I have traded CDs with promo stamped on the artwork as a "no art" trade and sent a PM to the recipient asking if they wanted the art. No one has been upset yet as far as I know. CDs can be traded with or without art, and only the words "promo" count as a promo, not bar code punches or cuts in artwork. 3) You will get CD credits in trade. I must say, that I have gotten rid of a lot of CDs that I found in bargain bins and gotten to listen to stuff that I would not have gotten otherwise. You will get CDs that look trashed but play fine and an occasional out of print gem. If you adjust your expectations accordingly, you might find it a great value as I have. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any questions! I'm beyond crappy now and into "just don't listen to this much, or doesn't have enough songs I like" territory. Someone did request one of the crappy ones, though! Thanks for all the insights Simone. My period of intense engagement has only been around a month and a half on Lala although I created my membership back in early Jule. I've traded 60+ items (in + out) and have only had a few hiccups to date: I accidentally requested a CD I already had, and I inadvertently sent someone a CD that contained some, but not all, of the songs on the album he had actually requested. But on the whole it's very positive. Almost everyone I interact with in trading has been polite, responsive, and easy to work with. The forums also get a great deal of active engagement from the Lala.com staff (a.k.a. the 209ers) and they are unfailingly eager to respond to legitimate requests and feedback. There are some periodic annoyanances (getting a CD with ripped art, or finding packaging snafus with digipaks or other non-standard cases) but it's well worth the investment of time, energy and money to date. It is too bad this new month (between June and July) does not actually exist, so we could extend summer yet another 30 days or so. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #178 *******************************
