Thanks very much for being there. Joe Mallon jmmallon@joescafe.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Aug 2006 21:11:56 -0700 From: "Steve Holtebeck" Subject: [loud-fans] Hotel Utah I don't get out to the Hotel Utah very often these days, but couldn't imagine seeing the Loud Family anywhere else. Low ceilings, limited sightlines, but the ultimate visceral concert experience. It's like watching a band in your basement. Same setlist as the Sacramento show, but different encores. setlist: 1. Baby Hard-To-Be Around 2. One Will Be The Highway 3. Inverness 4. Don't Respond, She Can Tell 5. What If It Works? 6. Pop Song 99 7. (Kind Of) In Love 8. Mavis of Maybelline Towers 9. Song About "Rocks Off" 10. Rocks Off 11. Where They Walk Over St. Therese 12. 24 13. Some Grand Visions of Motives and Irony encores: 14. Total Mass Destruction 15. Not Because You Can Random observations: - -Scott really doesn't turn his guitar up loud enough. You've got to crank it up when you're in a power trio! - -This LF power trio lineup plays really well, so hopefully there will be more shows in the future. - -During "Not Because You Can", I noticed that the setlist steered clear of GT/LF songs where Gil Ray played drums. Joe Becker is a great drummer, but he had to feel intimidated playing that song with the master himself standing a few feet away. - -As well as being the official release show for WHAT IF IT WORKS? this was also the unofficial release for Anton's IN THE VILLAGE OF THE APPLE SUN, so he played a bunch of songs from that album during his opening set ("This is Why They Call Me Guru 7", "Bicycle Built For Bicycle 9", "When I was 46 in the year 13", all the "number" songs). I've had a CDR of that album for awhile, and it's kind of a difficult listen end to end, but the highlights sound great when performed live. - -Steve ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #150 *******************************
