In Total Mass Destruction, there's that line about "And the fanzines rave but I don't see it payin' no bills". Fanzines? Do fanzines even exist anymore? I know the song is an old one, but since he re-recorded it, why didn't Scott update it to say "websites" or "internet" instead? Just did my first listen of WiiW on headphones, btw. Pretty cool. Don't Bother Me is really swirlin'. And I can hear Anton's backing vocals better. The old version didn't have that line either-- it was There're rock bands all doing handstands Think they're the best we've ever seen There's a glam boy down in Perth Amboy thinks he's a queen The last part originally mystified me; I transcribed it as "clamboy", which someone (Dan Schmidt?) justifiably found hilarious. I haven't seen a new paper fanzine in a while, but I also haven't looked. There are plenty of websites calling themselves 'webzines', though, and I can see feeling like that made 'fanzine' still-current. The earlier bit "and the phono wails" kind of places the song's frame of reference a ways back in the past anyhow. aa ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 17:00:15 -0400 From: Dan Schmidt Subject: Re: [loud-fans] anachronism Aaron Mandel wrote: > The old version didn't have that line either-- it was > > There're rock bands all doing handstands > Think they're the best we've ever seen > There's a glam boy down in Perth Amboy thinks he's a queen > > The last part originally mystified me; I transcribed it as "clamboy", > which someone (Dan Schmidt?) justifiably found hilarious. Indeed that was me! Thanks for the reminder. The Matthew Friedberger tracks I've heard from the upcoming albums sound really good... ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #144 *******************************
