I contacted the band through MySpace to let them know I found their cover art and website art to be so horrific I didn't want to buy their album even though I like their music, and asked why they chose such subject matter. The first reply said, "then you'll really hate our video" and said that Kim Novak's is one of their favorite artists and that they're animating her artwork for an Animal Farm type video. The person went on to say that "horrific" was too strong a word, but he respected my opinion, and I could go download it at iTunes to get the music without the cover (missing the point quite a bit, apparently). I replied, questioning why horrific was too strong a word for depictions of profusely bleeding mutilated and decapitated animals. The reply I got was arrogant, flippant, and downright silly. It did, in passing, mention that the paintings are about a battle (which I really don't think is obvious with them out of context on an album cover), but ended by saying, "Why you felt the need to share your disgust over the artwork with us, blows my mind. We don't care." I have just sent them a lengthy reply about why I think they should care, since it's not obvious to the casual viewer that it's not about animal cruelty, and saying that I didn't appreciate the tone of the last reply. All in all, the person who dealt with these emails, and didn't even sign a name to them, has acted fairly rude to someone who wanted to be a fan and wanted to understand what the purpose is supposed to be for all that gruesomeness. Even if I could accept the artwork now, I can't accept the attitude. It's too bad. They seemed like a decent band, but I just don't feel like I can support them.
