I posted "The Night Sun Over San Juan" here if you want to hear it. It's closer to _Precollection_ (and its UK analogue, _The Lilys_) than probably any other Lilys release, in that it doesn't seem to be designed to emulate any particular style (as, of course, a lot of Lilys records do). Some danciness (in a low-tech, non-glossy way), more synths but again not in a chart-sounding style... I haven't had a chance to listen to it more than 3-4 times, but the songs mentioned above are among those that have begun developing earworms for me. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2006 08:39:44 -0800 From: "B.J. He's rediscovered his shoegazing roots, but he's learned how to use it more effectively this time around! Very little remains of the cut-and-paste-Kinks sound from a few records back--there's a lot of Krautrock, some bits of electronic stuff, but it's still got strong songwriting. It's great! Apologies to anyone getting duplicate messages.) Has NPR's live webcast series been mentioned here? They're webcasting next Monday's Belle and Sebastian/New Pornographers concert, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's concert on Wednesday. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4627437 The site lets you stream earlier concerts, including shows by the Decemberists, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Iron and Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, and Sigur Ros. Most of the shows were at the 9:30 Club, here in Washington, DC. Apparently Scott wasn't too prolific with this one: word on the street is that if not for some begging and pleading, the album would have had only 10 songs (including the covers). Kinda funny, since Anton seems to record a new album every other day (although they haven't been released). - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2006 16:54:53 -0800 (PST) From: "Joseph M. This list? Why would you make an assumption that there are Scott Miller fans here? (On the assumption that there are a few prog-rock fans here, Wounded Bird Records has released the first U.S. CD issues of, among other titles, some solo albums from various Yes folk, including Jon Anderson's _Olias of Sunhillow_ and Chris Squire's _Fish Out of Water_. It's a pretty interesting (and not only prog) catalog, in fact...) - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #51 ******************************
