It's stylistically and chronologically all over the place, but true to a single spirit. Rather than engaging in his practice of ranking all the tracks from 1-5, I'll just list all the tracks then provide random thoughts and footnotes afterwards. If I were ranking these, nearly all the tracks would be 4 or 5, and they were nearly all new to me. Many thanks to Stef for the great mix! MIX: DON'T THINK TWICE IT'S ALRIGHT Intro(0) Gomez: Silence Midwest Product: Dead Cat Super Furry Animals: Hermann Loves Pauline Van Morrison: Ringworm(1) dEUS: What We Talk About (When We Talk About Love) The Posies: Dreamin' The Lyrics: Mr. Man Lisa Mychols: Cycles Per Second(2) I See Spots: Shades Dr. Feelgood: Crazy About Girls Chicory Tip: Son Of My Father(3) Primevals: Heya (part 1) Timewellspent: Probably Nicholas Slonimsky: Castoria Death in Vegas: So You Say You've Lost Your Baby (featuring Paul Weller)(4) Charlie Feathers: Peepin' Eyes The Residents: Romanian Chip & the Chiltons: Third Time's A Charm Das Pop: You Flo & Eddie: Nikki Hoi(5) Millionaire: Aping Friends Splodgenessabounds: 2 Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please(6) Madeline Bell: That's What Friends Are For (7) Billy Strange: Don't Think Twice It's Alright(8) (0) Alongside the songs, the mix features a Bob's Big Boy ad, a Muffler Shop Ad, and this NC-17 rated intro skit. (1) from Van's legendary contract-breaking "final Bang Sessions" (2) from the dB's tribute album STAND-INS FOR DECIBELS.. The pop-purists probably had a collective coronary when they heard Lisa's trip-hoppy cover. The whole album is worth picking up, and our pal Tim Walters collaborates with Scott McKnight on one of the mp3-only "bonus tracks". (3) I had "Son Of My Father" on a glam compilation cassette, and nearly wore it out playing that one song. One of the best riffs ever! (4) Paul Weller sings Gene Clark? This is a great version, and not Death in Vegassy all. (5) Flo & Eddie's first solo album is one of the most underrated pop classics from the era (early 70s). (6) For the longest time I thought this track was by Half Man Half Biscuit, and spent ages looking through HMHB releases for it. (7) NOT the Bacharach/Sager track! I think this song pre-dates that one (8) Strange was a session guitarist who did a series of these instrumental LPs. Groovy! ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V6 #44 ******************************
