There's a new (to me) XTC single that was released on iTunes Music Store last week called "Where Did The Ordinary People Go?" It's credited to "Andy Partridge & XTC" even though it's sung by Colin Moulding, and if it's actually a new song (and not a recycled old one), it might be Colin's best song since "My Bird Performs" more than 13 years ago. iTunes also has XTC's complete Virgin back catalog as well as all six volumes of Andy's FUZZY WARBLES series. Are there any recommendations from that set for the casual, non-fanatical XTC fan? - -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Dec 2005 18:47:30 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: [loud-fans] new XTC tune on iTunes? It is new, apparently (according to the XTC website chalkhills.org). There's also, somewhere, two other new(ly released) XTC songs, "Spiral" (which I think someone talked about 'round these parts a while back, which is actually an older song, I believe) and "Say It," about which I know nothing except it's listed as being available as a bonus download for purchasers of the new _Apple Box_ compilation (4-CD set with _Apple Venus_, _Wasp Star_, plus the two discs full of home demos for each). It seems weird to me that it's billed to "Andy Partridge & XTC" since it's actually written (and sung) by Moulding. Oh well - maybe iTunes figures AP's _Wonderfalls_ theme (billed to AP alone) was such a big hit that there are now reams of AP fans out there who've never heard of XTC. Which might be true. It's not new, although it might be a new recording. > iTunes also has XTC's complete Virgin back catalog as well as > all six volumes of Andy's FUZZY WARBLES series. Andy has done an excellent job of making even the early demos sound good. I might fiddle with the running order between the first and last. NIN? out-interbabing? Paris? Oh my! ++++++++++++++++++++++++ as for the loud/ant record, scott is in paris right now but will dig into the newest tracks when he returns, with a mastering date set for january. some folks who've heard the record so far have been a bit surprised by the NIN/TOOL vibe of the album, but what can you do? i'd hoped for more of a 12-string electrofolk sound, but scott is intent on out-interbabing himself and i ain't gonna stop him. besides, it's fun for me to watch the record mutate. i've never been involved in such a heavy and dark record and i can picture us reaching a new audience altogether. brain donor indeed! ++++++++++++++++++++++++ mm, who's wondering if Wolf Parade will make a full run to the top of his year-end list. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Dec 2005 22:20:43 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: [loud-fans] More from Anton On 12/13/05, Michael Mitton wrote: > More info from Anton on the upcoming record. Anyway, this is pretty amusing: look for Scott's 2016 release to explore that hot new "freak-folk" thing goin' on... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Dec 2005 22:52:50 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: [loud-fans] new XTC tune on iTunes? You can tell it's a Colin song by the horrible synths. (I like the song itself, but yech on the arrangement.) Someone break into his house and steal all the synthesizers. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V5 #276 *******************************
