Does anyone actually fall for that? Apparently so: one of Rose's parents' neighbors was actually arguing that she didn't want to vote for Kerry "because he was a millionaire" - whereas Bush was "a rancher." Excuse me a moment - the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus are here for a porn video I'm filming. > I witnessed Ana Morales marry Doug Gillard. This tends to be a pattern with reformed bands thanks to the relative amounts of time between albums/tours etc these days. As for the new Posies, I may be in a minority of 1 but I actually like it quite a lot. There's not as much of the more complex vocal harmonising these days, but there are some songs that I really love. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: > And you can get really excited over that new Big Star after you compare it > to > the lameness of the new Posies. Delurking... When I was a young lieutenant, my troop commander would sometimes prompt me for a Situation Report, or SITREP for short when he hadn't heard from me much on the net. Gil, that is one hell of a SITREP. 1. Congratulations on the newlyweds! Will there be pix? 2. I second Sedona, AZ as the most beautiful place in the world. I went there over New Year's 1997-98 with my family and would kill for sunsets like that back east. And the Oaxaca restaurant has some smokingly hot pico de gallo, but that's incidental. 3. The fallout from our recent natural disasters just highlights my basic lack of belief in human nature, particularly where politicians are concerned. 4. I guess I'm glad I'm not balding, but I might as well be when I have the barber shave off the sides and back of my head with an electric razor when I go every week or so. The rest of my hair can't be much more than a half inch long, even at the longest. Well, maybe a little longer than that in the front. And not least, it would seem that my number is finally up. I got an alert order to prepare for movement to Iraq to augment the 101st Airborne Division. They need a strategist, and I gave up being a tanker (or more properly, an armored cavalryman) to be a strategic plans and policy officer about a year ago. I should be deploying in about a month or so, maybe for six, maybe for 12 months. Don't know yet. Since I haven't been deployed since 1997, the law of probability has caught up. The interesting thing is that I'll be one of the first (if not the first) strategic planners to deploy with a division headquarters. As a former commander of the 101st was told during Desert Storm, "Well, you're making air assault history. Don't fuck it up." Time to see if that strategy crash course at the Army War College paid off or not... - -- Francis J. H. At least he didn't start a war based on lies. And he didn't steal the largest budget surplus in U.S. history (thanks to said perjurer) and turn it into the largest deficit in U.S. history. (Or do you think Bush was lying about Saddam's atrocities?) I'm more impressed that a guy who's wondering how he's going to retire also admires the idea of a budget surplus. Be sure to enjoy knowing the government's sitting on your money while you're dining on Alpo. The good news is that we're now bringing in more taxable income than under Clinton, at savings to you and despite the Bush tax cuts that you probably also deplore. But we all support our LoudList Troops! We can also all probably agree (in addition to liking Jethro Tull) that The Posies are always great as an acoustic duo of Ken & Jon, and you can see them putting on a free show at the fine Manhattan record store NYCD on 9/29. (Or do you think Bush was lying about Saddam's atrocities?) There are so many things wrong with this administration, but the primary one is that they live in the garden of pure ideology. And because their ideology is Good, it doesn't matter if they have to bend the truth a little, or a lot, to get what they want. The honest argument (the geopolitical one) was there to justify an invasion of Iraq, but they were unwilling to make it, knowing that the American public wouldn't support it. Thus WMD. And they worked very hard to leave the impression that the invasion might be costly in lives, but not so much in dollars and time. Really, take a look at Bush, and it should be no surprise that this administration is arrogant, incompetent, and deceitful. - - Steve ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V5 #222 *******************************
