It looks like the first "real" show of the tour (after a mini-jaunt down the coast doing in-stores). Kind of a weird schedule. After the Galaxy, they do another in-store and then take 2 weeks off. From what I understand, Neko will be along? Does anyone have opinions of the new disc? I don't think it's quite as good as ELECTRIC VERSION which has been my favorite to date. Neko will be along for the ride, as well as Dan Bejar, who typically hasn't toured with them I don't think. Dan's band Destroyer is opening for them this tour. Is it too early to start the necessary thread on what the lyrics are? I thought I heard Neko sing about the Maastricht Treaty at one point. I feel the opposite-- well, no, the title song and "Jackie, Dressed In Cobras" are good, but tracks 2/3/4 are a lull for me, of a kind not found elsewhere on the disc. After a very disappointing initial impression, AD FRANK IS THE WORLD'S BEST EX-BOYFRIEND has really grown on me. We saw him play solo last Saturday and, true to form, he played all the songs I didn't like from the album and proved that they sound good when it's just him on the Kurzweil, without his crew of Boston rock d00ds. a ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Aug 2005 22:38:28 -0600 From: Roger Winston Subject: Re: [loud-fans] New Porn At Tuesday 8/23/2005 03:16 PM, Aaron Mandel wrote: >On Tue, 23 Aug 2005, Larry Tucker wrote: > >>I've been enjoying the new one a lot, at least the first half of the >>disc, then it starts to wane a little for me. Hmmm, I really like track 4: "The Bleeding Heart Show". But I think I agree, on first and only listen so far, that "Side 2" is generally stronger. "Sing Me Spanish Techno" was the standout track for me. The last song was a really decent album-ender. But yeah, "Jackie Part 2" is aces. I definitely like TC better than I liked EV after the first EV listen, so that's a good sign. Unlike Larry, I still like MASS ROMANTIC better than EV, though EV really grew on me. Hearing the songs live helped. This could all change. All I know is I can't wait to listen to it again. Good sign. The production has really opened up, except, strangely on the first/title song. Listen loud! It was very odd, BTW, walking into Best Buy today and seeing TWIN CINEMA featured on their "Look here! New Stuff!" table at the front. And on sale as well. I remember trying to find MR & EV at a store and ended up having to order them online. There must be buzz. >After a very disappointing initial impression, AD FRANK IS THE WORLD'S >BEST EX-BOYFRIEND has really grown on me. I've been disappointed in the new Ad Frank also. Too bad I probably won't get to hear it live like you did. The generally depressive tone of the album (musically as well as lyrically) bummed me out a bit too much. Not that albums (especially Ad's albums) always have to be happy little affairs for me to enjoy them, but there was something about it that just hit me wrong.
