Anyone who wishes there > were > more Left Banke albums needs to pick up the Stories' ABOUT US -- the > monster > hit single, "Brother Louie", may be the worst song on the whole album "Darling" is a really lovely tune from Stories About Us. I never though too much or too ill of Brother Louie, I love some songs on their first album and much of their 2nd album (About Us). Brown quit about 2/3 of the way through About Us, so I never heard anything after that, presuming Brother Louie to be the barometer of their direction. If you love the Left Banke (any everyone should), the Montage album is pretty lovely. Montage were a band Michael Brown assembled after leaving The Left Banke and they are pretty similar to the Left Banke. Brown was their writer producer and arranger but not a band member (I believe he did all the keyboards for them, too). The Montage album is on CD from the Sundazed label and it includes a version of Left Banke's Deseree. On an unrelated subject (but a bit on topic), I saw a lovely, tragic, heartbreaking, harrowing film this evening called "Tarnation". It's a sort of documentary/sort of film collage and it's a bit heavy on the drama, but quite facinating. Also, amid the Iron & Wine, Low and Mark Kozelek songs on the soundtrack is a Hex song. - - Dan V ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V5 #191 *******************************
