What a great frontman that guy is! Strange show, that Go-Betwens gig. They were fantastic, and they played a million encores, but the audience was surprisingly rowdy and obnoxious--there was even a fight! > I > was going to post a "go see the Go-Betweens" > message to loud-fans, > but their super-short five city US tour wrapped up > this weekend It's a shame they didn't tour more thoroughly, especially since they didn't tour the U.S. at all behind the previous album! And, as Jeff mentioned, they really are operating as a band now--they sound fantastic and it was a thrill to finally hear them live with a rhythm section. > Have we discussed OCEANS APART on loud- > fans? I think it's pretty good! I agree--I really like it a lot. I think it's the best of the reunion albums. Jeff mentioned "Here Comes A City" rocking pretty hard, and I have to say that live it was even more intense--they sounded like Talking Heads or the Modern Lovers with that big wall of clanging rhythm guitars! The live version of "Here Comes A City" sounded even more like "Life During Wartime" than the recorded version does! Forster was dressed in a David Byrne sportcoat, and I kept singing "this ain't no party.. this ain't no disco!" during the chorus. Robert and Grant also did an acoustic medley of "Clouds" and "Love Minus Zero" where they looked and sounded like the Walker Brothers. - -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jun 2005 18:44:44 -0400 From: "jer fairall" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] August! And also, Michael Penn, the reissue of the Arcade Fire's debut EP and that new John Vanderslice record that has amazing advance word-of-mouth. Plus, the frightening prospect of the next Liz Phair album. This record is one of three in the running for "Album of the Year" in The Flagpole Music Awards, held on Thursday in Athens at the Morton Theatre. It is an e.p. of rough mixes, and more people voted for it than Vic Chesnutt's new full length studio record! I told y'all they were good, but nobody even bit! ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V5 #156 *******************************
