Preferrably using something of the free, online variety? << Jeff hit most of the highlights; one other thing to watch for is that the preamp is not just an issue of volume; it also applies an EQ curve (commonly known as the "RIAA curve," antoher googlable phrase) so even if you get the signal level right -- and you need a different boost depending on whether you've got a ceramic or magnetic cartridge in the phonograph -- it'll sound weird if you don't use the right EQ. Lately my singer has been having a lot of success with a standalone mp3 recorder. He hooks the recorder up to his stereo, it makes an MP3, he transfers it into the computer later. Much less of a p.i.t.a. than the way I've done it. & nothing against goldwave, but Audacity IS free. audacity.sourceforge.net - ------------------------------------------------------ don't email the sender at this address; it won't work. Aimee is playing small and mid sized theaters, while Michael Penn plays the club and coffee house circut. Clubs/CH's like The Point in Bryn Mawr PA, where yours truly was last night and saw him perform an excellent show.
