OK, I feel like the answer to this ought to exist on the net somewhere, but I haven't had much luck in finding it, and this is a likely crowd of people to either a) know, or b) enjoy helping me search. I'm looking for a list of modern (rock, techno, electronica, movie-soundtrack, etc.) reworkings of the "O Fortuna"/"Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" opening of "Carmina Burana". They have to include choral presence, either directly or via sample, so instrumental renditions don't count. List leads or individual entries you happen to know of will both be much appreciated! So far I've got soundtrack versions from Conan the Barbarian and Final Fantasy, and a techno version by Enigma, but I'm certain there are many, many more. glenn ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Apr 2005 10:13:38 -0500 From: "Keegstra, Russell " Subject: RE: [loud-fans] "O Fortuna" in rock? >...reworkings of the "O Fortuna"/"Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" opening >of "Carmina Burana". I haven't listened to it for a while, so I can't recall whether there's any choral presence therein (what counts as a chorus...?) - but according to the compiler of a metal mix made for me a couple o' years back, some band called Botch did one. Oh - and I think Tom Servo used a bit of it as his personal theme (possibly with Englished lyrics, sung by multiple Kevin Murphys, about Servo's own greatness) on that episode of MST3K where everyone had their own theme song. It may have been a rather loose adaptation...but it clearly was inspired by it. There. That was enough vague, not-really-helpful responding for one day. - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Apr 2005 17:06:54 -0400 From: "Bill Carter" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] "O Fortuna" in rock? 'I continue to find "Carmina Burana" both viscerally exciting and remarkably ahead of its time. But it is hard to imagine even the score's most rabid foe wishing upon it the treatment received Thursday night at MCI Center, when a troupe called "Carmina Burana Monumental Opera" turned it into the classical music equivalent of "This Is Spinal Tap." I have little knowledge of the region, but on short notice got invited to fly there for an interview tomorrow. My sister-in-law is from there, and loves it, but she and my brother live in Boston now. Our other likely next spots are DC or Boston, and I know these cities well, but Sacto is a mystery to me. What kind of lifestyle there? Nightlife? Housing? It's a pretty good record - but not quite at the Burma level. Some of the non-Miller or Conley songs are kinda eh. (Note that Dan clarifies this at the site...) I don't know the other CD on offer. - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V5 #88 ******************************
