Gimme a break. Is the "deluxe" edition selling for the same price as a single-disc? Because if it is, damn, I wish I'd saved my receipt - not that a store would be likely to actually exchange it, but itmight be fun to argue about it. And record companies wonder why filesharing is so popular...policies like this (and the annoying "greatest hits that every fan already has along with one new track" thing) pretty much demand it. So yeah: anyone want to burn me a copy of the bonus material? I'll send ya something... Grrr... - -- ...Jeff, who's bought most Costello albums 4 times... The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Mar 2005 09:29:43 -0500 From: "Larry Tucker" Subject: [loud-fans] Continental Drifters demise This was posted to the Drifter's message board on March 3 by Peter Holsapple. I'm saddened to see this day come, but I think it was inevitable after Susan Cowsill left. They were a helluva good live band and had a good run though. They'll be missed. Peter's new project aside from the future dB's stuff is The Revolutionary Army of Saint Bernard, though I have no word on who's in that band. Larry ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Several days ago, Robert, Mark, Vicki (via fax) and I signed the papers that dissolve the limited liability corporation of the Continental Drifters. This means, technically, that the band is no longer a business and no longer liable for taxation. To be honest, with everyone gainfully employed elsewhere in and out of the music 'business', it is doubtful that there will be much activity from the band anymore. I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of this news, as you all have been very patient with us over our inactive years. But I think we all are grateful to everyone who has been a fan and has stuck by us. The fate of the website is pretty much in the hands of Mark Walton as our webmaster, and his availability to maintain it will dictate its activity. Compact discs will still be available here as long as the site is up; we grabbed up as many Razor & Tie discs as we could before the company took all our titles out of print. We still plan on compiling a live CD and/or compilation DVD at some point in the future. When it was running at full steam, the Continental Drifters were a band that had few peers. Many of my finest musical memories come from performances of ours. I think that anyone who ever played in the band, and anyone who ever guested with us, would agree that it was a singular experience, full of emotion, power and great music. And realistically, bands have start and end dates. We have reached ours, at least for now. No door should ever be considered closed permanently, and I suspect that, very possibly, down the road we'll find each other and meet on the ledge once more. Me too. Remember the horrible first version of MY AIM IS TRUE on Columbia CD? (first re-buy for me) They simply transferred a record to CD. Now THAT'S assholish. Columbia titles in those days were like buying Thrifty Maid macaroni and cheese from Winn Dixie. You got the dish, but with the appeal of gruel on Oliver Twist's plate. - --Mark np The Essex Green THE LONG GOODBYE ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Mar 2005 16:35:32 -0800 (PST) From: "Tim Walters" Subject: [loud-fans] Prithee, a favor According to www.echoes.org, a tune that I co-wrote and played recorder on is going to be broadcast on tomorrow night's "Echoes" program (the NPR newage/space music program that's *not* Hearts of Space). Unfortunately, none of the NPR stations in the Bay area carry the Friday show. This is the first time I've ever got national airplay (not counting thirty seconds on Dr. Demento that I didn't find out about until afterward), and it would be cool to have a souvenir. If anyone out there gets Echoes on Friday nights and is willing to record a small section of it (tune and back-announcement), I'd be very grateful. The artist is Ozone Player, the tune is "Edgewood," and it's scheduled to be played at 25:14 of the third half-hour of the show. (The second half-hour is the whale song special. Seriously.) To tie this to a long-ago thread, do you know how much BMI payout I can expect from this, given that the track is longer than six minutes and therefore eligible for double royalties? If you guessed "zero dollars," you're right! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Apr 2005 00:01:56 -0500 From: "jer fairall" Subject: [loud-fans] more ted leo In addition to the astoundingly excellent Kelly Clarkson cover that was discussed here last week, Ted Leo also now has an iTunes-excluse EP called SHARKBITE SESSIONS, featuring a cover of "Suspect Device" along with full band versions of "Loyal To My Sorrowful Country" and, now-poignantly, "Six Months in a Leaky Boat," which originally appeared in solo voice-and-electric-guitar form on 2003's TELL BALGEARY, BALGURY IS DEAD EP. Well worth the $2.98, or whatever the US iTunes store is selling it for. Jer last played: The Bloc Party, EP last viewed: IMAGINARY HEROES http://www.Care2.com Free e-mail. 100MB storage.
