Where's Dana Paoli when you need him. So which should surprise me more, than Aimee "I Who Have Nothing" Mann makes more per show than I make in a year; or that Mark Staples works for the ninth Van Halen album? Yeah, you put some 5uu's songs (from Hunger's Teeth, it looks like) on a mix CD, and they were among the things I liked. Listening to them now, it's true they don't sound exactly like The Shunned Country, but it's audibly the same flavor of prog as that Drake album. And, for the record, evidence suggests I am just fine with cape-prog as much as any other kind. a ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Mar 2005 12:40:12 -0800 From: "Michael W. Crowded House was one of my favorite bands, and watching their live sets, you saw just how much joy the band members had in each other's presence. (Of course, Paul could be a bit of a prick as well - he quit the band, midtour, in 1994, a show or two prior to me seeing Crowded House in Minneapolis/St. Paul. As I recall, the drummer from Sheryl Crow's band picked up the slack for that show and the remainder of the tour.) Hester was a great drummer, an amusing songwriter ("My Telly's Gone Bung," from the Crowded House leftovers-compilation Afterglow), and a wonderful live performer. A sad day. - --------------------- Michael W. Advice I'm going to be in Los Angeles and vicinity from April 6th-10th, and I'm wondering if there's going anything of musical interest happening while I'm there. Anything good of a poppy, rocky, jazzy, etc. nature? The friend I'll be staying with has pointed out that the Pasadena Symphony will be giving a Schubert concert on the 9th. If only I hadn't been scarred by all those years of violin lessons. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Holly holly-kruse@utulsa.edu n.p. Oh good lawd. See me get Men in Fur to open for them, but then see Sammy Hagar get violent and smash Jayme, the lead singer, over the head with his phallic mic, driven to violence from the tweeness. First, however, see the audience scream obscenities at Jayme while singing "Sister Moon" and flick Marlboro Red butts at him.... I have them all like a good slave, but this one is absolutely fantastic, and he sounds the best he's ever sounded, and the version his band does of "The Headmaster Ritual" is superb. Sorry to post excessively, but I'm thoroughly impressed. It's a far cry from LIVE IN DALLAS. Forget what I said recently about missing the younger Moz...the older one is much better. - --Mark ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Mar 2005 21:10:15 -0800 From: dc Subject: Re: [loud-fans] RIP Paul Hester On Monday, March 28, 2005, at 12:40 PM, Michael W. I always really liked his songs. I guess the poor Finn Brothers had the play the night his death was announced. I read a couple tour reports at the website and it sounds like it was really emotional--Nick Seymour was there to play some Crowded House songs with them and they put a snare drum and black hat up at the front of the stage like they used to do for Paul.
