At first I thought, "Hey, this isn't too bad. Maybe the UPists are right about this album". Though maybe hearing it out of context from the rest of the album made it sound better. But then the song WOULDN'T END. It's like 5 and a half minutes long and it tried my patience in this short attention span world I live in. So, I dunno. Isn't it an import, or no? Is it good, or is it a "they shouldn't have gotten back together" letdown? I gave ATS its only point in the 2004 loud-fans album poll so there are at least two in this crowd. I can't really say I like it enough to argue its merits, but there isn't anything I dislike, so it's at least solidly tolerable for me. Does the recent deluxe reissue of AROUND THE SUN mark the shortest amount of time between an album's "issue" and it's "reissue"? I know there have been self-released albums picked up by labels and reissued, but the same album reissued on the same label just a few months after it first came out? I can't come up with anything similar to that. How about that Brendan Benson album? There have been many cases in the past where an album came out, was rejiggered a bit (new cover photo and/or track substitutions) and then got reissued quickly, usually to highlight an unexpected hit single -- weren't there something like THREE versions of Thomas Dolby's THE GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS released in the states within the space of a year or so? But this is actually a fairly common marketing gimmick these days: Usher's CONFESSIONS was reissued with a bonus track, that single he did with Alicia Keys, only a few months after its initial release, and Elvis Costello's THE DELIVERY MAN has already been reissued with a bonus disc. The idea is to make the hardcore faithful re-purchase the album, thereby giving it a second-wind sales boost. A couple of magazines i've picked up came with sampler CDs featuring two tracks from the album and the songs are really fantastic! I'm a huge fan of House of Love and was skeptical of a reunion album, but it really sounds like it might be great. I'd also highly recommend their John Peel sessions CD--a great demonstration of what a fascinating and brilliant band they were. B - -- No virus found in this outgoing message. It does! I used to have all of the albums through AUDIENCE WITH THE MIND, but today only have the two I knew I'd revisit, the Creation debut and the one on Fontana from '90. Ivy did a good cover of "I Don't Know Why I Love You." It was perfect for Dominique. For some reason, HOL always made me think of Felt (but no Felt titles have ever left my shelf for resale).
