I was running version 7, because 8 and 9 would simply make my computer have seizures (the guy who has repaired it said 8 and 9 were "bloatware"). I figured 8 and 9 were meant for people with Pentium class III or IV computers and XP. I have 98se and probably the equivalent of a Pentium II...a 500 megahertz chip. AOL sent me a new version of AOL 9.0 titled "AOL 9.0 OPTIMIZED CLEANER" (the third edition of 9.0 I've received since it came out...wouldn't that make it 9.2?). I tried it, and it runs great...very smooth...no knocking uphill...lane changes are a dream. Also, this seems to be the longest AOL has used a version of their software. Version 9 has been out for almost two years. What would they have done to make this new edition of 9 work so well? Would this involve rewriting most or all of the code for it, or would they simply tweak it here and there? It really is remarkable how much better it is. We'd like to bring your attention to a benefit auction on eBay (see link and info below). Among the items you can bid on are a lifetime subscription to MAGNET and a set of all available MAGNET back issues; there are also many other fine items for auction (a signed Wilco book, autographed Beastie Boys CD, etc.) Thanks for reading - Team MAGNET VIEW ITEMS HERE: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsassZspinartQ5f records ABOUT THE AUCTION: This is a benefit for our friend and colleague Sarah Flynn, who has worked at spinART Records for over four years. Recently she was diagnosed with a rare lung condition and has since spent over two months in the hospital. Although Sarah's insurance is covering a lot, there are still other expenses to be taken care of, including keeping her parents here in New York by her side. In November, Sarah thought she was suffering from a bad cold, but it wouldn't go away and forced her into the hospital. Her condition rapidly deteriorated, and after many tests, the doctors determined that Sarah was suffering from Wegener's Disease - an immune disease where her own white blood cells were attacking her healthy lungs. Radical treatment began immediately, in which she was unconscious for the better part of a month. We are happy to announce that Sarah is progressing faster than anticipated by her doctors, but there are still huge hurdles for her to overcome. Rehabilitation will begin next week, but she may not be able to work or be active for months still. Obviously, even with health insurance, this is an extremely expensive affair for Sarah and her family who has been living in NY hotels and donated apartments since the beginning of December. ******** We send out MAGNET's e-mail newsletter every two months to keep you informed of happenings at the magazine and Web site. If you'd prefer not to receive this newsletter, e-mail newsletter@magnetmagazine.com and ask to be removed. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2005 23:53:31 EST From: LkDylaninthmvies@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] taken to the cleaner In a message dated 2/5/05 11:28:02 PM Eastern Standard Time, pking123@sympatico.ca writes: And they would be rare, since computer-literate people tend to have an arrogant attitude toward AOL, and stay away from it. I am not sure why since I don't use AOL. I think it's probably along the same lines as the people who ditched R.E.M. when they left I.R.S...the "special" few of us vs. the commoners. I like AOL, and I like R.E.M. And I like Men in Fur. If I had my way, Scott would be doing the halftime show's entertainment tomorrow at the Superbowl.
