Well, that's certainly the Staplesian definition/impression of what the media etc. thinks of people in our age group, but I haven't read the Time article either, so I can't say for sure. Based on her recent (Grammy Nominated) album, I'm assuming she has a whole new band. Didn't some of her old mates end up in Chatham County Line? I've heard she's quite the live performer. She's playing Friday in LA. Any listers thinking of going? I'd love to meet up. She'll also appear on Leno Friday. Thanks, Doug Douglas G. There were some minor changes as the ones that are now in Chatham County Line have day jobs and can't really tour with her, but by and large they're people she's been playing with for years. When she recorded her first album there was some pressure put on her to hire out Nashville sessions people to record with but she insisted on her using most of her old band The Carbines. At any rate Zeke Hutchins, the drummer, is her boyfriend. She used to live down the road from me and would play shows on weekends at the local Post Office/General Store. She even wrote a song for the new album about the town called "Laid a Highway" and still occasionally plays there for old times sake. Having seen her numerous times I can attest she does put on a really good live show. There's a lot more energy and rocking to her shows than her albums would lead you believe. Very much a Bonnie Raitt crossed with the Rolling Stones vibe at times. Many of her local old fans were a little put off by the glossy image than Lost Highway was projecting, but I think they all understand that that's just the record biz machinery at work. If so, they could either decide not to contribute, or to contribute and recognize that magic beans are the only compensation. If the writers didn't know in advance that magic beans was their only compensation, if they didn't ask, they're foolish businesspeople. The only cause for animosity is if the writers were actually misled: say, they were promised an entire magical beanstalk, or a sampo - and instead were given only magic beans.
