Off by twenty-six years and some odd days, aren't you old bean? Moscone shook Jones' hand once. And was killed about a week after the Kool-Aid episode. Oh, here's a good one: Leo Ryan and Dan White lie in the same boneyard. In San Bruno. I'm nowhere near ready to propose a list of my own since I've purchased so few albums this year, but have seen some very good live shows at least. - ----------------------- Michael W. The Ry Cooder one with the Cuban guitarist... Oh, look: It's Middle Age. Micah P.S. the Bollywood CD has some great guitar tones. Ah, man.... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I can't believe it's that time already - and I think I only bought six albums this year, not counting the stuff I've downloaded from eMusic and not had a chance to burn yet. Baby production* took up my whole damn year (um, I do know how long it takes to produce a baby, I just thought I could do other stuff at the same time). As it stands, I think the Magnetic Fields would win top honor - but I hate to say that without even having heard, for instance, Nick Cave. I'd better get on it! Funny you asked about the updates, cause I was just wondering myself if I should continue..I will, but maybe a bit less...floral. When I left off, I was ready to jump onto "I Am Atomic Man!", the all important tile track, and most importantly, THE LAST SONG! Well, a new one came to me while I was dickin' around with that one, so there's gonna be 2 more to do. I started trying to assemble the parts I had into an agreeable order, when my pea-sized brain started to wander...Low and behold, a bluesy riff popped up and I've decided that's it's time to take on a blues number and TESTIFY! The source of my inspiration is West, Bruce and Laing's "Third Degree", with a bit of "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" thrown in. I will keep it simple and get to it. I've already got the basic drums programmed, but need to go in and do some fancy-ass fills. The song is basically done (except for the words, of course), and I need to get it done, but MORE DISTRACTIONS keep coming along! I bought a guitar. It's an Ibanez AF85. Beautiful fat electric hollow body jazz guitar. I love it: http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-IBA-AF85-VLS--brand-129.html Actually went to check out some Epiphones that were on sale, played some, didn't like 'em, tried this and it was love at first strum. Fought down buyer's regret the following day, and I'm keeping it. Nice rich tone that can also bark with a distortion pedal. It also is in damn near perfect intonation with itself. It stays in tune. Praise Jesus. Now, I just gotta go back and re-record all my guitar parts. Just kidding! By the way....I forgot to mention that at the GVB show, I saw Paul Wieneke. Asked him if he's playing with anyone and he is. He's in his 13 year old son's band. Mind blowing! Cool, yet mind blowing! Gil __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Magnetic Fields...eh, I'm not sure. I included it in my mid-year list, but I'm not certain about my list for the year as a whole. I like "I Don't Believe You," but overall, the album is no CHARM OF THE HIGHWAY STRIP or HOLIDAY. The other three I'll have to think about. WNCW news: Our super expensive late model studio mixing board burst into flame last night. They think it was a chip inside (or was it The Pepsi Syndrome?). It's going to cost in the tens of thousands to repair. We're having to revert to old analog Bessie Mae that goes back to the station's 1980s beginnings (and the one I trained on as a college intern many years ago) that is kept in the production room for training. Works fine, but as far as accurate level readings, forget it.
