FWIW, the exact text (part of a discussion about palidromic vs. duplicative band names) was: > (to my immense surprise, the goon on the other end of the line when i was > ordering my phone service knew what a palindrome was when i asked for one.) goon, as in 'had already proven himself not extremely useful in setting up a phone line'. perhaps i should have used the word 'impediment' rather than 'goon' to demonstrate that his previous actions had already constituted a remarkably thorough sampling of his ineptitude, rather than allow the gentle reader to think that i was judging based on occupation. 'surprise' as in i always ask for a palindromic phone number, and that was the only time the person hasn't required a definition. but i guess if you're looking for something to get up in arms about, you can find it anywhere. and whether the term used in MP, and recently applied to JRT, is 'twat', 'twit', or 'prat', i'm voting for 'git'. or maybe 'boob'. possibly 'prig'. brianna, the bisexual, prejudice-against-blue-collar-workers, married, faithful, ex-pizza-delivery-driver, ex-bartender, non-palidromic elitist. you choose which apply (two of the above do not). - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, October 16, 2004 12:21 AM Subject: Re: [loud-fans] non-musical post (just PLEASE vote) > In a message dated 10/15/04 11:53:24 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > jeffreyw2fs@gmail.com writes: > > > > I thought you guys didn't do "nuance" - it's like French or something. > > > > It was a perfume by Coty. > > Wait...did that sound gay? > > --Mark S., who is actually bi for the record (but always monogamous in a > relationship), owns no Streisand or Garland, and doesn't like the cliche ridden > QUEER EYE (though the food guy seems really smart and would be interesting to > talk to) and WILL AND GRACE > > "BUSH IS A REDNECK" > (a bumper sticker I saw on the back of a confederate flagged F-150 the other > week...they have it like it's a good thing) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004 20:44:39 EDT From: JRT456@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] non-musical post (just PLEASE vote) In a message dated 10/21/04 8:24:53 PM, me@justanotherfuckin.com writes: > > that would be me. yes, the 'me' that you exchanged rather nice e-mails with > off-list, post-palindrome comment. > I swear, isn't that just like the supposedly "Christian" Mark Staples, working both sides of the fence...just as we'd all expect from a typical bisexual? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004 20:35:18 -0700 From: Steve Holtebeck Subject: [loud-fans] saviour at the gates of eden 2fs wrote: > Because public places are already playing damned Christmas music, and > because I just listened to Dylan's _Bringing It All Back Home_ > yesterday, I thought I'd point out that it's fun to sing the words to > "Gates of Eden" to the tune of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" - because > more Christmas carols need references to "motorcycle black madonna > two-wheel gypsy queens.'" > > Come to think of it, it is kinda Christmassy - in addition to the > madonna, there are angels (COWBOY angels! even more fun)... I'll keep that in mind if I need seven minutes or so to fill out this year's holiday mix disc. Anton Barbeau covered "She Belongs To Me" once at a Christmas concert, since there's a line at the end about buying her a drum for Christmas or something. The reference to cowboy angels makes me think that Gram Parsons "Grevious Angel" could be recast as a Christmas carol too. I agree, the record is brilliant! The tightened up production helps a lot, too. It might be a good one for folks who've been on the fence about Ted Leo--he reigns in his vocals a bit and it's more immediate overall. The new Morrissey single, Let Me Kiss You, has the best b-side of the year--a ridiculously weird and rocking song called "Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice" that is too cool for words. Lots of horns, strings, background vocals, etc. I'm assuming the Underfed album is culled from earlier mixes done before the sessions that added overdubs to Fed. In that case, it will probably sound quite different. By the way, the excuse for Fed's non-release in the U.S. has been given to me as "Fed cost a fortune to make and so a fortune is asked for it", but i'm not entirely sure I understand that. Why would a label be responsible for re-imbursing the cost of the making of the album, unless the Liam is demanding it. By all accounts he funded it himself, so no label is obligated to pay him his costs. I'll write to Drag City and see what they say... B - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. As far as the gay Christian thing that JRT raises, I believe in the deity of Christ.
