Rex.Broome's recent email triggers my own request for advice... I'm thinking about amplifying my acoustic guitar. Anybody got any advice on what acoustic pickups and/or acoustic amplifiers they've been happy or unhappy with? (My local acoustic guitar shop, whom I pretty much trust, recommends a Fishman Rare Earth combo pickup (which is not cheap) and sells Ultrasound acoustic amps.) If it helps, I play a Taylor Dan Crary Signature guitar in front of a mike with other bluegrass-type instruments. I like to flatpick solos every now and then, and have trouble being heard amidst the banjo, fiddle, or surprising loud mandolin. Email me offlist if you don't want to bug everyone else. Curiously, I had a dish called "Surprising Loud Mandolin" at a Chinese restaurant the other night. - ------------------------------- ...Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com/ :: "In two thousand years, they'll still be looking for Elvis - :: this is nothing new," said the priest. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Aug 2004 09:36:48 -0700 From: "Douglas Stanley" Subject: [loud-fans] Attn: L.A. When the sun gives that sad autumn glow it does this time of year, it makes me want to listen to Game Theory. "Regenisraen" is the perfect song to play driving from Greenville to Asheville, NC during fall peak. Anyone get the Mojo volume 2 Beatles Tribute and would want to trade a copy of it for a copy of volume 1? Now digging: Future Soundtrack for America... Some very cool tunes here... All I've heard is a couple of short clips on their >website for "Nearer Than Heaven" and "Hey Girl" ("Long Time Coming" >seems not to be working). "Nearer Than Heaven" is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time and you should buy the single. I first heard it on the radio on Indie 103 here in L.A. and I assumed it was an all-female band only to be shocked to find out that it was all dudes. I haven't heard a man sound so much like a woman since the days when Quercio was young. I wouldn't recommend the CD, however, as the rest of the songs are mostly lacking hooks and the time spent in heavy rotation in my CD player was very short-lived. On the other hand, go see the Delays live if you can. The delivery of the songs was far more moving in the live environment. I would say they're particularily well suited for a brighter, punchier context--mine has a kind of "bright" switch on it that has come in handy. B - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
