Yeah, first hand is always best because you never know how the recording is going to turn out. Unfortunately, the footage I shot at the Hemlock gig isn't usable because the vocals were distorted on the recording. The non-vocal instruments sound okay, and the overall levels of the recording were great, but something in the way the microphone picked up the vocals made them distorted. Such a shame because it really was a stellar performance by both bands. (It was thought that playing with EQ might help salvage it, but initial attempts didn't prove too promising, though I'm by no means skilled in cleaning up such errors). I share this sad tale on the list because I know there is a wealth of recording knowledge here. If folks have advice about how to film live gigs (or how to avoid the specific problem I had above) I'd love to hear it. I'm new to doing this and really want the quality of the audio in my show to improve. Many thanks for any advice. - -Sarah ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V4 #229 *******************************
