So anyways, by virtue of the fact that I was interested enough to buy them, and while I admittedly haven't properly absorbed some, I guess it's: The Church, Forget Yourself Fifty Foot Wave, Fifty Foot Wave PJ Harvey, Uh Huh Her Loretta Lynn, Van Lear Rose Mission of Burma, ONoffOn AC Newman, The Slow Wonder Patti Smith, Trampin' Sonic Youth, Sonic Nurse TV on the Radio, Desperate Youth... Wilco, A Ghost Is Born Which is not a bad crop. Several are the respective artists' best work in quite some time. As usual the database shows the first half of the year has been devoted more to picking up records suggested by other folks' Best Of 2003 lists... I should honestly just do best of lists for the previous calendar year as a rule. I figure the ubiquitous Franz Ferdinand record to be an easy used pickup by the year's end... - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 10:33:37 -0700 From: "Bradley Skaught" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Half-Year Bests 1.Morrissey You Are The Quarry The record to beat this year--hard to imagine anything coming close! 2.John Vanderslice Cellar Door 3.Ken Stringfellow Soft Commands 4.Jon Langford All the Fame of Lofty Deeds 5.Franz Ferdinand s/t I love this album, and after seeing them live i'm even more excited about them. 6.The Church Forget Yourself 7.Loretta Lynn Van Lear Rose 8.Trashcan Sinatras Weightlifting EP Just a teaser, really, for the full album--hope it's as good as these three songs! 9.Dave Gleason's Wasted Days Midnight,CA A fantastic local country record. It's a tougher trick than it would seem. At one time, things were so grim in this department we considered selling each CD with a customized listening environment modeled on the ground floor of our house and to scale - estimated street price per CD: $22,000. We figured at that price we'd only have to move a couple units. And at least they'd sound good." With housing the way it is, this could be a real bargain for some people. Jen ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V4 #190 *******************************
