(the harder they are to understand when speaking, the less of an accent they have when singing.) brianna - -- An attitude of permanent indignation signifies great mental poverty. Politics compels its votaries to take that line and you see their minds growing more and more impoverished every day, from one burst of righteous anger to the next. I had never been able to understand a word Stuart Adamson said in interviews and such, but I had no trouble making out his sung lyrics. For the past couple of years, I've been working on a full length cd. I have 2 1/2 more songs to go. The title will be; I Am Atomic Man. I thought it might be fun to keep a journal of my trials and tribulations on finishing the album. A virtual blog if you will. I'm too lame to figure out how to do a blog, so I'm forced to impose this on you, but fortunately, with infrequent posts. I hope you don't mind. Feel free to delete, comment or ignore. Like I said, only 2 1/2 songs to go... Thanks, Gil Saturday, May 15 Today I plan to record the vocal tracks for what is shaping up as the darn PURTIEST cut on the record: The Touch Of A Clone. A lead and a harmony track. They need to be breathy and sweet, not unlike the kind Scott can do. But of course, without nearly as much talent and verve..., and twee. I'll do my best to take the miserable out of the whine. The lyrics shaped up ok. Spent alot of time trying to decide on a title. Went with "A Touch of a Clone". It also took forever to decide on either the word "would", or "will", throughout the chorus. Thank god I don't do this for a living. Yet again, it sounds like I'm the loneliest and most isolated guy in the world. I'm not, but I've been out of therapy for quite a while. What the hell. I'm doing all of this in our second bedroom in the condo we reside in. Been pretty good at perfecting low volume recording, but vocals are one thing you can't really hold back, breathy or not. Hang in there, neighbors.. Took quite a while deciding what effects to use. I don't mix with effects, I'm lame. I record them directly while I'm doing the track. Guitar compressor and an ok reverb unit. The lead vocal went fine. It takes a while to clear out my lungs and such, and to warm up my voice. The key here is to not let it get tired! As I was recording, I had many visits from Monster (my cat), who always seems to know what to do to irritate me. This time he would sit at my feet, looking up to my face and rub his cheeks and mouth on the mic cable. Creepy! This you can definitely hear, so out he went. You can also faintly hear kids playing outside in the swimming pool. Probably won't be audible in the end. Took a break after about an hour's worth of takes and listened. It will do. Good! Only a couple of sketchy notes. There are 2 instances where you can hear a minor rattle in the vocal chords (I swear I'll quit smoking..), but I will live with the track. I honestly do not have the patience to be a perfectionist. This will do. Not bad. The harmony track was fun. First harmony on the record!. Breathy and in tune (within reason!). The bridge got a little hairy. Couldn't go as high as it required, so I dropped the part lower. In doing so, I came up with a killer part. A very professional part, I might add. All of this seems to be done on the fly, and I do like that. All in all a productive afternoon. Now, on to mixing this puppy. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
