Recomended highly. There is also a rumor that Sam is now a divorcee, T-Bone and she split. I second that--it's a bit incredible, really, how much in the spirit of Fireworks it is. It's like 13 years haven't passed. Unfortunately it retains a lot of that album's flaws (most attempts to stretch out beyond the ringing pop stuff fall flat), though it is better sounding and not quite as stiff. I could've done without the piano player, though--it gets a little "Foo Fighters featuring Chick Corea" at times. Still, it's Stamey and so it's worth it. Besides, has he ever made a consistantly great solo album? > I also picked up the Rock City CD (Chris Bell & Jody >Stephens' just pre-Big > Star band's lost album), I haven't listened yet, any one >have thoughts on > this ? As a Big Star nerd, I enjoyed getting a little insight into the process leading up to #1 Record, but I can't say i've listened to it more than a couple times. The Big Star songs are the highlights, and they're better in the Big Star versions. The rest of the stuff is just kind of cool. Other good new releases: Jon Langford's All the Fame of Lofty Deeds is fantastic! It's exactly what Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer would've sounded like had they _really_ collaborated (and had they both been a little closer to their peaks as the time!) Stripped down, raw country with funny and biting political commentary. Very funny and spirited--should be the soundtrack to Air America. I like to make prolamations like: Jon Langford is one of the most overlooked songwriters around today, and also one of the best. The final For Stars album, It Falls Apart, is probably for the already converted. They go a little Kid A and it's mostly the dirge ballad side they focus on. If you love them, and I do, then it's great. I'd also like to reiterate that I think Franz Ferdinand are wonderful and their debut album is loads of fun from end to end. Smart and funny and stylish. I've heard two tracks from the Lynn/White collab - "Portland, Oregon" and one other whose title I forgot. In fact, I heard "Portland" again this morning on the radio on the way to work - a few songs after "Anthem" by Shalini! - ------------------------------- ...Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com/ :: "In two thousand years, they'll still be looking for Elvis - :: this is nothing new," said the priest. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 May 2004 14:23:12 +0100 From: "Angela Bennett & Ian Runeckles" Subject: RE: [loud-fans] incredible subject title Isn't the whole thing an album by Sparklehorse?
