But it is undeniable that this president is not on top of the most damaging part of his legacy--the catastrophe he is inflicting on our future fiscal health. - Andrew Sullivan, on Bush ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2004 08:06:13 -0800 From: "Bradley Skaught" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Surf's Up? The new MOJO magazine has a large article about Smile--haven't read it yet, but it looks like it discusses the upcoming tour as well. As a longtime Smile fanatic, I find it exciting, but watching Brian over the past five years or so has been rather dispiriting. He doesn't seem any more in control of his life/music decisions or any more truly "in the moment" than he did back in the "Brian's Back" days. I hope i'm wrong, but it looks a lot to me like he's just propped up behind a token piano and surrounded by great musicians making it sound good. And the fact that his daughters call his new wife (Melinda) "Melandy" is really disturbing. Once again, I hope i'm wrong. I haven't read it yet, but the new MOJO looks great. There's a big series of articles on VU and the "62 LOST ALBUMS YOU MUST OWN" features some surprising favorites of mine: Robin Gibb's "Swing Slowly Sisters", Pentangle's "Solomon's Seal", Urge Overkill's "Saturation", Eric Matthews "The Lateness of the Hour" and Kevin Rowland's "My Beauty". Since there's really no hip cache in exploring the 90's i'm not surprised that some of the truly great lost albums of the 90's are overlooked. I'd have added Trash Can Sinatra's "I've Seen Everything", Morrissey "Southpaw Grammar", Boo Radleys "C'mon Kids", Richard Davies "Telegraph", Chris Von Sneidern "Wood and Wire", Loud Family "Interbabe Concern" and oh so many more! If anyone out there is paying attention, I want to be in charge of the 90's Nuggets box. Got that? Great, thanks! luv, B ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V4 #54 ******************************
