I really enjoyed this interview: the writer has a private, detailed vision of the ups and downs of Scott's career, and gets all excited about band personnel changes or shifts in production style. I don't think many dead-tree magazines encourage this kind of fannish enthusiasm any more, unless it coincides with popular success. Interestingly, the writer lumps REAL NIGHTTIME in with the "experimental" Scott albums as opposed to the "straightforward pop" ones. I've always been a little bit at odds with the every-other-album theory, or at least with the valuation that usually goes with it. Possibly this is because LOLITA NATION and INTERBABE CONCERN are for some reason a little less satisfying to me than some other Scott albums, and because I love TWO STEPS so much. I don't think I'm reacting against the ambition, coz I rate PLANTS AND BIRDS very high. It's probably just something about how my melodic tastes interact with Scott's. I didn't realize that loud-fans had contributed so many members to Scott's bands! Did Alison really hook up with the group via this list? - - Dan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Dec 2003 23:46:20 -0500 From: Jenny Grover Subject: [loud-fans] chat?
