(I seem to recall that this section was only available to subscribers; I don't know if that's changed.) In one of the features, Aimee Mann lists twelve albums that you must have or she will come to your house and spit on all your furniture. Number five is The Loud Family's "Plants and Birds and Rocks and Things". How about that? Very nice, indeed. In case you were wondering, the entire dozen looks like this: 1. Elton John/Madman Across The Water 2. Badfinger/Straight Up 3. Randy Newman/Good Old Boys 4. Elliott Smith/XO 5. The Loud Family/Plants and Birds with Rocks but Things 6. Coldplay/A Rush of Blood to the Head 7. Liz Phair/Exile in Guyville 8. Elvis Costello/Imperial Bedroom 9. Honeydogs/10,000 Years (apparently, this one isn't coming out until January) 10. Honeydogs/10,000 Years (apparently, this one isn't coming out until >January) I was surprised at this entry when I saw Andrea Weiss's post last night. I guess I've got all the Honeydogs records, though I'm afraid I can't tell you loads about the last couple since I wasn't knocked over by them. I loved their first two records of alt-country pop (and their frequent KC visits were always fun shows), but just didn't "get" what's come since. Maybe I should go back. Anyway, I figured there had to be a Mann/Penn connection for the mention to make any sense, and sure enough the record's being released on their United Musicians label. But for those who're lured by the Mann imprimatur, or who were more constant Hondeydogs fans than I've been, the record in available on the net (or by actual retail in the Twin Cities): http://www.honeydogs.com/index.asp Heck, I was a little surprised they were still together. b.s. "A colonel in Baghdad told me just after I arrived that senior Army officers feel every order they receive is delivered with next November's election in mind, so there is little doubt at and near the top about who is really being used for what over here. The resentment in the ranks toward the civilian leadership in Baghdad and back in Washington is palpable." - -Lucian Truscott IV, in the 12/7/03 New York Times ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V3 #362 *******************************
