I can't speak to the MIDI stuff - but for editing sound files, I've been happy with Goldwave (at the obvious URL - $40 shareware). Also, for ripping (also a good .wav recorder) you need Exact Audio Copy . ..Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com/ :: As long as I don't sleep, he decided, I won't :: shave. I've used Syntrillium's Cool Edit for about 5 years now until they got bought out by Adobe this summer and I had to fork over the upgrade bucks for continued support. This may be a lot more software than you need but it does a lot. It's actually more of a home recording studio. http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/main.html Larry ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 10:47:11 -0600 (CST) From: Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey Subject: [loud-fans] Apple McVenus So Sunday, Rose and I drive up to West Bend, WI, to meet her parents and brothers and sister for lunch at a regional fast-food chain (Culver's - not our choice, but better than other options preferred by her family). More the latter. This happens all the time on the in-house music that gets piped in to businesses. I recall hearing Lloyd Cole's "Margo's Waltz" at a restaurant in Portales NM around 1994. The audio editor that comes, even with the OEM versions, works well for me, does all the tasks that you mention, and is free. I also liked it because it was the only tool that I had that did not require me to unpack my MP3 files to uncompressed WAVs, unlike the Soundforge program that had come with my Sound Blaster a few years ago... If you buy an off-the-shelf copy of the Easy CD Creator, it should work with the Sony (or so I'd think)...the OEM ones that are packaged with various drives are designed not to work on other CD-RW drives. If I recall correctly, earlier versions of Easy CD Creator wouldn't work on Windows XP without a patch. That was supposedly the case with a lot of software. I'm a Windows 2000 guy at home and at work, so I can't speak from personal experience. Francis J. H. Hell, I'll third it and throw in a Monkey's Audio (also free) for those files you want compressed without losing any bits. ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V3 #330 *******************************
