I was fortunate to catch the Lucksmiths at an in-store show here in L.A. this past summer. I was broke and unemployed at the time, so I could not buy any of their cd's. Now that I've got a little money, I am hitting the records stores, but I'm not sure which release of theirs to pick-up. Would anyone be able to provide recommendations or opinions regarding which release would be the best one for a new fan to buy? Thanks! The guy that makes my cd cases is always happy and surprised to hear from me again so soon. The 1000 or so cd shelving runs me about $150 and it is beautiful. It's almost time to call him again... And good god, that cover of "Baby What You Want Me To Do" is horrific. What is it with that song? John Cale ruined also ruined a perfectly good record with an equally lethargic take on the same song... how did that become the thing to do? - -Rex, proud owner of a giant homemade wooden CD shelf but dragging his feet on making the other identical one he needs ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003 15:33:31 -0800 From: Steve Holtebeck Subject: [loud-fans] Fwd: Stew on All Things Considered (NPR) Today - -------- Original Message -------- Subject: STEW on ALL THINGS CONSIDERED (NPR) TODAY Date: 10 Nov 2003 23:01:32 -0000 From: tnp@negroproblem.com THIS JUST IN FROM THE ALL THINGS CONSIDERED FOLKS 4:30 pacific, 7:30 eastern "Singer/songwriter Stew seamlessly blends gospel and funk with sophisticated lyrics, sweet melodies, and an even sweeter voice. The computer is equipped with Windows XP and a Soundblaster Audigy 2 soundcard capable of 24 bit recording and burning. I record sometimes from records or cassette, plugging a cable into the soundcard of course. I also make my own music (and have an unfinished album long overdue to a label) which is either recorded in via a reel to reel via the sound card. With this computer, I now have midi capabilities/inputs and a midi capable digital piano, but honestly, I'm pretty unsavvy when it comes to digital sound recording and mixing. I previously used the simple Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe on a Windows 98 equipped computer. I liked it, but ended up having to use separate software when I bought a Sony burner (it wasn't adaptec adaptable... hee hee). In the Easy CD Creator Deluxe software, there was a sound editor that did a fairly good job of trimming analogue recordings, chopping out pops and clicks, adding effects like reverb and delay, reversing the recording, etc. I'm fairly lost without software like this, but just dumped a load into the computer and would prefer not to spend another $100-$150 on software unless it is resolutely amazing and easy to master. Any thoughts ? Dan Vallor ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V3 #329 *******************************
