Regarding Nelson's guitar: I have wondered the same damn thing. Did you ever see him with Paul Simon on Saturday Night Live. His method of taking a solo had me in stiches. He just took off. Skittering across the song. I know the Jayhawks have a fair number of fans around here, so after finally having a chance to hear RAINY DAY MUSIC, I'm surprised there's been no talk of this album on here. I think it's the strongest thing they've done since HOLLYWOOD. I like SMILE, but I thought a couple of the songs ran away into cheap pop. Here, they've maintained the soul that I usually associate with the Jayhawks, while still including a lot of great hooks. The new Belle and Sebastian seems to be a return to form. I've been generally disappointed from BOY WITH ARAB STRAP on, but I'm liking everything on the new one. Oh, I went to Neil Young's Bridge School benefit this past weekend. What's the deal with Willie Nelson's guitar? Exactly how does that thing manage to keep from crumbling into dust? - --Michael ===== www.openoffice.org A free, full-featured office suite that replaces Microsoft Office, but is compatibile with Office documents. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2003 08:09:32 -0800 (PST) From: Robert Toren Subject: [loud-fans] Loud Fan Moves to England - Confronts Racism Long-time Scott-fan, and used-to-be loud-lister, Karen Eng, recently moved to England. Sorry about that. I have been listening to "The Complete Stone Roses" lately. It's not complete, but it's a damn fine collection of Pop songs. I've read all the interviews on how the guitarist was coked out. Egomanical. Listening to this set has me thinking that this was not the case. Good question. It's looked like that for decades... I wonder if there's any evidence of him playing it before it was trashed like that. Certainly one of the most instantly recognizable instruments this side of McCartney's Hofner. I always like to see guys who literally play the same instrument for years. Young's own Les Paul (Old Black) qualifies, too... and that thing has also taken its fair share of abuse. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2003 10:52:46 -0800 From: John Cooper Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Hit Song Science Shades of Negativland's "The Perfect Cut." Hijack the Disco show at 10, HjD goes on about 11. October 29, 2003 Stork Club, 2330 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA i work with the new drummer - i'm listening to a pretty impressive cd of their old stuff as i type, and he is assuring me that the new stuff is much better. it's indie/rock/pop/other... influences include superchunk, rainer maria, no knife... there are some pretty complex, interesting sequences. my only complaint would be the i-wanna-be-billie-joe vocals, which he says are now being handled by another band member with a much better voice, David Tsui, whom i can hear in the background and would certainly like to hear more of. they are orignally from somewhere back east, and fairly new to the bay area, or so i understand. they are currently looking for a label; i can see them doing pretty well if they find one. otherwise, it sounds like they'll remain a good live band, anyhow. there is about a 75% chance of me making it, depending on whether or not i can stay awake long enough. brianna - -- What's the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underpants if nobody ever asks to see 'em? - Calvin - -- recent adventures in tech support at http://www.pirate.org/people/hello/cat_techterror.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2003 17:14:37 -0600 From: Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Hit Song Science Quoting Roger Winston : > Here's a Halloween scare for ya.
