I could live the rest of my life with the voice of Orson Welles. Especially the radio adapation of "Donovan's Brain." Always fond of Roger Corman's as well. The two Glyn Johns GET BACK masters have been bootlegged endlessly since '69 of course, and lots of DJ's have aired cuts from them... Maybe you're thinking of the rare first edition of LET IT BE with the lavish picture book? That goes for around $750 mint nowadays. >Where's the biggest Beatle nut ever to walk this list when you need him... My two cents on LET IT BE: first of all, I own both versions of GET BACK and they're not very good. Spector's effort, with all its faults, is far superior. And really, his only two misdeeds are the over-orchestrated "Long and Winding Road" and "Across the Universe." The rest is pretty stripped down and I really like what he did on "Let It Be" (blows away the Martin-produced single), with those mournful horns and ass-kicking guitar solo. As for LIB...NAKED (and I agree, the "naked" concept is somehow Beatley-imbued) it seems like a reasonable proposition. However, I'm not sure how much new we'll be getting: we already have the stripped "Long and Winding Road" on ANTHOLOGY 3, so the only must-have is the first official appearance of "Across the Universe" in its essential form (hopefully). Remember, the "Wildlife" and LET IT BE versions of ATU are the same early 1968 recording, sped up and slowed down respectively, with different overdubs and mixes. The stripped down GB mix by Johns at the correct speed is very nice but only available on bootleg. The other change to the album is apparently they've dropped "Maggie Mae" and "Dig It" (guess those were Spector choices that P, G, and R didn't care for?) and replaced them with "Don't Let Me Down" which ALWAYS should have been on the album (it was on both GET BACKS). Guess we'll also lose Lennon's "Now we'd like to do Hark the Angels Come" intro to "Let It Be" since Macca always took it as swipe... >Hoo-ha! And Spector's productions with and without Lennon never rocked, >natch? I found it odd that, when Spector got into trouble recently, news reports never mentioned that he produced "Let It Be," "The Long and Winding Road", "My Sweet Lord", or "Imagine", easily four of the best-known recordings he was involved in - as if his Wall of Sound/early rock'n'roll reputation has eclipsed all else. He also produced PLASTIC ONO BAND, arguably the greatest album in rock history, and almost unbearably...well, naked. JS The New Yahoo! Agreed - and even though "I Me Mine" is minor Beatles at best, the horns there work pretty well too. Oh, and while I much prefer the, uh, immodestly clothed version of "Long and Winding Road," that's some stinky bass-playing by Mr. John Lennon. > As for LIB...NAKED (and I agree, the "naked" concept is somehow > Beatley-imbued) it seems like a reasonable proposition.
