I was going to mention DRESSY BESSY as well; I just discovered it myself. Really great four-chord power pop, at least half of which is in heavy rotation in my head. Imagine my shock when I gleefully downloaded the rest of their catalog from eMusic and found that their previous album, SOUND GO ROUND, was nigh unlistenable (to me) due to incredibly flat (like, by at least a quarter-tone) vocals. I don't know if Tammy Ealom took voice lessons between those albums or just learned to use AutoTune or whatever it's called (probably the former; in retrospect I can now hear her straining for some notes in DRESSY BESSY), but boy I'd like to hear that record rereleased with new vocal tracks. He's responsible for most of the 0-1 star reviews in the red book, and his agenda is very clear - Springsteen God, andything heavy-metalish evil. He comes across as a close-mideed tool. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 2003 10:08:03 -0400 From: Stewart Mason Subject: Re: [loud-fans] okay, who left the silver lame cape in the back seat of the Trans Am? Dressy Bessy has been a case study for growing up in public: SOUND GO ROUND is actually a considerable vocal (and instrumental!) improvement from their first few records. There were a lot of other peculiar changes. Richard Hell's BLANK GENERATION was trashed originally and revalued as a five-star classic, while Television's albums were given three stars the first time and downgraded to two the next (!?) Just weird. All this while they went and gave AC/DC's FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK four stars... _________________________________________________________________ Get a FREE computer virus scan online from McAfee. http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 2003 11:04:52 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joseph M. The Moog's filter design allowed for a somewhat "fatter" solo sound, generally speaking. Matthew Weber Curatorial Assistant Music Library University of California, Berkeley O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God: and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
