Mallon" Subject: [loud-fans] Mac DVD burner question I'm trying to burn a DVD using a friend's PowerBook SuperDrive, and when I put in a 4.7GB DVD-R, it tells me it's got 4.28 GB free. Can anyone tell me what happened to the other 400+ MB? The material I want to burn takes up 4.29 GB, so I'm a bit vexed at the lack of space. This has been happening to me a lot more than I'm comfortable with. Lately I've been noticing "holes" in the aluminum layer of some of the older CDs in my collection (the ones in my case were made prior to 1987). The plastic is entirely intact, there's just holes in the data, causing skips in the music. So much for compact discs that can be "stored like conventional records" and "will provide a lifetime of listening enjoyment". Thankfully most of mine that suffer this condition are still in print and can be replaced by new ones (hopefully produced after 1987, which I'm assuming CDs are now less susceptible to such 'rotting') Phil F. When I die, though I hope that I don't die so young, I hope that I have the courage and strength to say goodbye to my friends and family as publicly and bravely as Mr. Zevon. And, even if he hadn't been in his final months, "The Wind" would have been an album to be proud of. Cheers, Mr. Zevon - ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: Jenny Grover Date: Mon, 08 Sep 2003 23:31:11 -0400 >I hadn't seen this posted here today, so I thought I'd pass it along. > >http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/08/obit.zevon.ap/ > > >Jen ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V3 #264 *******************************
