My band is almost done (independently) scheduling our Fall tour, but still needs a little help with some dates. Please contact me if you think you can help out in the following places on or around these dates: Monday, October 6th or Tuesday October 7th South Carolina or North Carolina Thursday or Friday, October 9th/10th - Washington DC or Philadelphia Tuesday, October 14th in Pittsburgh, PA (our drummer's day job's Nat'l HQ is there so we should have a crowd!) Saturday, October 18th in Chicago, IL. If you make "british flavored rock", or are constantly mocked as Radiohead wannabes and late period Led Zeppelinites, please help us out! Thanks and email me offlist! Jason www.strangelight.cc ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 21:05:39 -0700 (PDT) From: Gil Ray Subject: [loud-fans] I, Alternate Juror.....Pt. 2. Ok, just a tiny bit more on this, por favor. After witnessing the manner in which the Public Defender worked, I must say he made me swell up with pride (gross!), and say to myself: "you know...maybe The System CAN work!". What a job! This dude was bustin' his ass for this kid. Impressed the hell out of me. It's just too damn bad that the kid will never know if this lawyer's work would have helped him out. Maybe this kid didn't deserve such a good lawyer. Who knows, but it is a comfort to me that even the poor, probably guilty, John Q Public, can have a fair trail. If there really is such a thing.... Speaking of fair trials, I realized that I will probably never be able to put aside any prejudices, if I should sit on another jury. I side with the VICTIM. Plain and simple. I will be damn sure to let the judge and lawyers know this fact next time. I would be prejudiced, but I would also be right. Don't need me on a jury, I guess...... The other thing that has been bothering me was that after the judge let us go, the D.A. asked if we would like to meet out in the hall and talk about what had just transpired. Is this weird, and just another one of those ONLY IN CALIFORNIA things? I was actually glad, and we all trooped out into the hall. Remember the kid-juror that had a murdered "god-cousin"? Well, he looked about 18 yrs old. The D.A. seemed concerned for him and stated so. The kid sorta kept a vacant look in his eyes and didn't really respond. Of course by now, I was seriously wanting a group hug, but thank the lord, I resisted. We sorta shot the shit with the D.A. and the Public Defender, and then we all left and got on the elevator. The kid was shoulder to shoulder with me and all of a sudden, I felt and heard him sobbing or something! Or was he laughing? I wanted to reach out to him and ask him if he was ok. I'm glad I didn't, because I saw no tears. I think the motherfucker was LAUGHING! Damn. Oh yeah, I noticed that every morning, in front of the courthouse were a couple of really large, respectable looking women, handing out small packets to folks that walked by. For 3 days I assumed they were handing out tiny little bibles or something. On the 4th day I walked by and got one.....they were "Bad Boys Bail Bonds" key chains. Damn. Last thing on this. The defendant's murder was in the paper today. Not very informative, except I now know his first name was "Wayne". Creepy. Gil __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Well yeah...but the whole point is, the person accused is to be regarded as innocent until proven guilty - and if that person ends up falsely convicted of a crime s/he didn't commit, that person also becomes a victim. I'm sure if you got accused of a crime on the basis of a profile (bald guy infested with deer ticks), you'd understand ;) *Someone* made the first guy a victim, yeah - but whether it was the defendant is the question. ..Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html :: [clever or pithy quote] :: :: --[source of quote] ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V3 #252 *******************************
