The Noise Pop Film Festival comes back to life a bit early this year to present a very special summer event for you: the world premiere of COME FEEL ME TREMBLE, Otto Zithromax and Rick Fuller's documentary on acclaimed singer/songwriter Paul Westerberg. An all-access pass into Westerberg's world, COME FEEL ME TREMBLE is a DIY document of his 2002 solo tour. Comprised largely of video footage shot by fans, the film captures Westerberg both on stage and off. In between the sound checks, song snippets and audience sing-alongs, he discusses his former band, The Replacements ("It was our job to fail on as big a scale as possible."), his personal history, the art of songwriting and his reputation as one of rock's finest lyricists. The film will screen on Friday, July 25 at the Delancey Street Screening Room, 600 Embarcadero, San Francisco, at 7:30 and 9:30 pm. Tix are $8 and will be available only at the door, so get there early! *!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 22:21:07 EDT From: AWeiss4338@aol.com Subject: [loud-fans] About that Scott/Aimee Mann Album I get the feeling it's on hold. There is an interview with Aimee at Rolling Stone.com, and while she has a new album in the works, it's not the duet project with Scott. Drat. She also nearly made me pass out, I don't even want to think of what she would sound like with The Matrix producing her, as she jokes about in the interview:-). I think the guy added me after I e-mailed him about where he heard the new Fall CD (the one that isn't released yet - but is widely available on Soulseek, which is so far the best filesharing software I've tried. I think it's downloadable from www.slsk.org, but I'm sure googling will confirm.) Hell, now all I have to do is possibly update the thing more than twice a year... I'm sorta retired from the reviewing gig, at least for the time being. Also: I was just wondering what ever happened to The Fletcher Pratt, having listened to and dug again their 2000 release _Nine by Nine_, when I get an e-mail from Stephen Palmer (one of the band's two writers) noting that his new band, Back in Spades, has an EP due out next month on a label not noted on the e-postcard containing the announcement. See www.backinspades.com for more info. I suppose George Dubber (the band's other writer) is too busy fucking up the presidency to record music. Oh - that's not him? Track listing and comments: 1 Atlantic Bill Janovitz-heard it before, it's good, think I may pick this up 2 Best kept Secret Longwave 3 The Stars Of Amateur Hour The Reputation-have the album, great album 4 Fall On Tears Love Spit Love-Richard Butlers post Psych Furs band. Have heard this in years, I like it, but I suspect it's impossible to get, their label Imago went out of business a long time ago. Sounds no worse of better than late Psych Furs. 5 Live For Real K's Choice- if all you know by them is Not An Addict, then this will surprise you. Another one to look for, pop, not grunge. 6 If I wake Up-Mishina USA 7 The Boy You Love To Hate-Jetplane Landing 8 Inverness-One of the most haunting songs Scott ever wrote. One of his best, too. 9 Regret Christine Fellows- very quiet, very eerie, very good 10 Tentai Konnsoku Bump Of Chicken-It's good, but what language is this in? 11 Live In A Hiding Place Idlewild-they live up to their hype. Third album to look for. 12 Glass Danse-The Faint 13 Doubter Mystery machine 14 Pathfinder Gay Dad 15 Pavlov's Bell-I wish Aimee Mann had made this the first single from Lost In Space, it's better than Humpty Dumpty. One of the best songs on the album period. 16 Kill An Hour-Vermont happy, sweet pop. Like it. 17 Late At Night-Buffalo Tom-almost as good as Atlantic 18 Past Due The Weakerthans-More nice sweet pop, more punk, which is better. What's the best album to start with from them? Bonus Tracks Weird Al-Constipated-trashes Complicated very well. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm having a mental block on the name of the band, but it's lister Doug Mayo Wells with a great cover of Don't Entertain me twice. Alanis-Hands Clean (acoustic) I want the album it's on, and I can't remember the name of the album, it's an outtakes album of songs from Under Rug Swept, and also about $35. I'm going to see if Amazon has a used copy of this. I love this song in any version, and knowing what it's about (she slept with a guy when she was underage, essentially forced into it by a guy who told her he'd make her a star-he did too) makes it very painful, in a good way, to listen to. Thanks Jer for a great mix!
