Apple had a meeting with 150 indie "producers and executives" and it seems that Derek Sivers of CD Baby thought it was positive. Not much real information yet, but it looks like there's a good chance indie label music will be coming to the iTunes Store. http://cdbaby.net/itunes - - Steve __________ Ideologues like Ashcroft are so disdainful of international law - and so solicitous of corporate privilege - that they find themselves excusing the most hideous misbehavior abroad. I don't think I would have ever picked up their newly re-released album "If It Was You" but for the fact that it was playing at Holy Cow, and happened to be on track 11 ("Want To Be Bad") when I walked into the store. What got my attention was the guitar solo in the background, which is a pretty direct rip from Eno's "St. Elmo's Fire" which isn't the sort of thing I expect from a couple of Canadian 20-something Lilith Fair types. I'm not saying it's the best album in the world, but it's got some pretty cool production from John Collins and Dave Carswell (names that fans of the New Pornographers may recognize) and in a couple places where the songwriting rises to meet the quality of the sound, it's pretty darn good for what it is. I'd like to see what they develop into, if they get the chance. For anyone who's interested, the reissue (which I think came out on 6/3) has some bonus videos and tour footage, some of which is actually diverting. If the track "Want to Be Bad" is available for sampling, that's the one I'd recommend to check out first. I'm not going to buy it, but I read that their first album is much more Ani and less interesting. - --dana ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
