This may be quibbling a little, but the seller's description of the ALRN EP mentions four "puzzle pieces," mine has the black and white pieces (funny, they don't seem to fit), along with three other insert pieces with color. Those, along with the credits insert, bring my total to eight. If he's asking for that much, shouldn't he have at least all the inserts? Or were they randomly "inserted." Also, is that correct that they made only 250? Anyone have any info? In the end, someone pointed me to a 256 Mb SDRAM chip for $79.00, and I think I'm going to give that a whirl. Awfully tempted by the geeky usb keychain, though. Enjoying Mclusky from eMusic a lot lately. Kind of like a meaner, less gentle Pixies? Also, Swans' Children of God/World of Skin 2xCD is back in print. It keeps getting reissued, but the reissues keep going out of print. The World of Skin stuff is really underrated, IMHO, and if you haven't heard Children of God, shame on you. And this is one case where mp3's aren't going to cut the mustard. I actually like the new New Pornographers album better than the first one, but I don't really like either of them very much, unlike Sasha Frere-Jones at Slate (http://slate.msn.com/id/2083366/) who also seems to think that the Tall Dwarfs are an obscure reference. - --dana ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! I think every song on the disc was at something like 89.7% of peak (according to EAC). ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 20:56:09 -0400 From: Janet Ingraham Dwyer Subject: Re: [loud-fans] alrn (s) At 04:47 PM 5/28/2003 -0400, Jbr21122@aol.com wrote: >This may be quibbling a little, but the seller's description of the ALRN EP mentions four "puzzle pieces," mine has the black and white pieces (funny, they don't seem to fit), along with three other insert pieces with color. Mine arrived from a trustworthy source with, I'm almost certain, only the items I have spread out in front of me just now. It *has* been at least 15 years, though, so something might have gotten lost: * 45 rpm single w/small hole, in plain paper sleeve * 4 yellow puzzle pieces: siren/"love 44314", woman on phone/"SFNY945PM", "I BELIEVE IN THE EASTERN WAYS"/"DERIV3+1=", and pointing outline people/"why don't we do it" * yellow outer sleeve that folds out four ways in front; you can form a 13x15" rectangle out of the unfolded sleeve and the four puzzle pieces, as they were all of a piece to start with. Lots more gibberish on the sleeve. I'm willing to scan all of this if anyone's interested, but I'll have to do it in pieces as my scanner bed's of modest proportions. The yellow sleeve looks just like the one in the eBay auction. I think it's funny that the seller claims this must be a rare record because Scott couldn't remember the words to "Green Card" several years later. I just picked up an LP copy of LN at Off the Record (a.k.a. Off the Rectum) here in San Diego. I asked them if they sold through the mail, and the answer was no. So I picked it up myself. The discs are beautifully cared for and played fine; I just listened to the whole thing. There's maybe a fingerprint or two on the first track on side 4 ("Chardonnay"), but it otherwise looks fine. The shrink wrap is still on it, and the Tower Records sticker is on the outside ($9.66). I'll sell it at cost ($10.75 + postage) or swap it for a disc of the collected MP3s that have accumulated on the LF website. I'd actually prefer the swap but will accept whichever offer comes first; contact me off-list if you're interested. - --R.L.
