At first, I didn't like Songs For A Tailor (wasn't what I was expecting) but after a few listens I got over my preconceptions and decided that it is really great. The reissue comes with some demos/alternate mixes/etc. as well. My favorite song for the last week is yet another eMusic thing: Karel Appel (and hey, now I know more about Dutch painters than I did before) by Poem Rocket, which is a fantastic Sonic Youthy thing of the sort that I didn't think they made anymore. The song that precedes it, "Crappy Payphone Song" is funny. Rest of the album is ok. Fans of Mark Staples will note that he asked about Poem Rocket way back when, though he misspelled the name of the album. - --dana ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Temporary Residence has a ton of great stuff if you're into that instrumental post-rock thing-- Explosions in the Sky put out one of last years best records, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die... Also well worth a download are Tarentel ( From Bone to Satellite), Cerberus Shoal, Rumah Sakit (if you dig Don Cab) and Halifax Pier. Polyvinyl is another great label on emusic...any loud-fan who hasn't already downloaded Mutilate Us by AM/FM is really missing out. Other Polyvinyl'ers of note are Pele, Aloha, Matt Pond PA, & American Football. Well here's the Rena Sofer content (the latest to inhabit the 9:30PM Thursday section of the Bermuda Triangle, and yet another "BBC did it better"show to boot, though I note approvingly that both other gals are plenty watch-worthy- former AMC alum Lindsay Price and "thank god they cancelled it" Mind of The Married Man refugee Sonya Walger): http://tv.zap2it.com/shows/showlist/showcard.html?3682 stopping before another obscure teevee reference comes to mind, b.s. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 May 2003 01:11:31 -0400 From: dana-boy@juno.com Subject: [loud-fans] the new Robert Palmer? (ns) Just returned from the Laptop show, and what d'you know...Jesse really does have a band of backing dominatrices. I swear, in a just world "Back In The Picture" from the new album "Don't Try This At Home" would be #1 with a bullet. A truly great song that sounds like a lost '80's classic, and you don't have to pay attention to the cynical lyrics to enjoy it. He also did "I'm So Happy You Failed" which made us very happy, though we didn't catch who he dedicated it to (I don't think it's the Strokes anymore). And I gotta say, I *love* going to shows with this non-smoking thing in effect. - --dana, who's going to be very sleepy at work tomorrow. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
