Yep - played this one for my brother-in-law, a musician but who was unfamiliar w/Shalini, and he almost immediately said, "hey - this sounds a lot like that band from the '80s...from one of the Carolinas...guy produced R.E.M...." Something about the chord sequence is very Mitch. > 9- Statuesque- Arbiters Anonymous > This could almost be a Blur song. Very nice, very British. Makes me > very inclined to investigate further. Their most recent title, _Live from Lake Vostok_ (it isn't), has many supporters here (including me). Although it's slightly inconvenient to get (last I heard, you need to send Stephen Manning, band guy, an international postal money order - go to http://www.statuesque.org.uk for details), it's well worth getting. They also have another full-length, of which this song is the title track and which is very difficult to find, and an EP called _Angleterre_. Oh - and the site's hilarious. > 14- Unrest- Six Layer Cake > I latched onto this one on the first listen. Tell me more about this > band. No - although strictly speaking, _Send_ isn't a rerelease. There are four new songs, and a major remix that adds half again the length to another track. The two R&B titles are still available, I believe, from http://www.posteverything.com. Plus, if you order _Send_ from there, you'll get a bonus disc of their Chicago show from last year. > 18- The Witches- Keep Me Away > The notes say 2001, but this could easily be much older. I believe they share bandmembers - and certainly an aesthetic - with Outrageous Cherry, although the Witches are more garagey. Glad you enjoyed it! PS to everyone in the swap: if you received a mix recently, please post its contents, even if you say nothing further about it. Be good, CJ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 May 2003 14:47:39 -0700 From: "me" Subject: [loud-fans] way OT, mainly bay area i got a call friday evening from my dad, who said there were kittens in his bushes. after an hour or so in the rain, trying to get through an incredibly dense juniper hedge, i dug out 4 wet, cold, scrawny kittens, probably abandoned. they're between 7 and 10 days old, and, of course, extremely cute. there are two black ones (they'll probably have some dark grey striping) and a dark grey and brown tabby. there's another one i'm probably going to keep if she makes it - they all have a cold and are now on antibiotics, and she's the worst off of the four, but also the cutest. if anyone wants one, i will take care of the weaning (feeding every three hours and other not so cute things), then it's yours, provided you promise to get it fixed. i'd love to be able to get back some of the vet bills (currently abot $25 per kitten), but as long as they have a good home and are neutered, that's all that matters to me. they'll be eating and using a box in about 3 weeks, but may still need the ocassional bottle feeding, which is pretty easy to do. feel free to pass this one to anyone you think might be interested. brianna ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 May 2003 04:26:44 GMT From: Dana Paoli Subject: [loud-fans] cookie monster (ns) I notice that Opeth have a new album out which, according to Aquarius, is all mellow melodic stuff. What Aquarius doesn't mention, which seems to be the most important point, is whether the muppet who normally sings lead has ceded the microphone to Miss Piggy or Elmo or *anyone* with a more melodic voice. BTW, eMusic has a bunch of Opeth. I'm working on getting past the vocals, but it's not easy. If the new one has normal singing, it could be killer. Any metal fans who have suggestions for creative ways to rationalize the cookie monster voice...I'm all ears. - --dana, who carried 2800 pounds of dirt through his house today. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! I'm talking about the CDs with 30 and 60 second clips of music that you can buy outright and use in movies and such without further financial obligation. The particular question I have is whether existing packages of royalty-free music might have old music on them - in my case, I'm looking for 40s romantic instrumental music.
